In a competitive market, the simplest way to attract more passengers and airlines to airports is to continuously improve the passenger experience. Over the long term this means investing in the infrastructure to make for quicker arrivals, smoother departures, and more enjoyable connections.
The Terminal will produce 40% less carbon than those it replaces
Terminal 5C is expected to become operational in 2011
BAA has an extensive capital programme underway. This substantial investment in modern airport facilities is aimed at delivering sustained improvement in both passenger experience and operational performance.
The key investment for BAA in the short term is the construction of Terminal 2 and Terminal 5C at Heathrow. The new Terminal 2 will be home to the airport's Star Alliance airlines and will produce 40% less carbon than the buildings it replaces.
In addition, as part of the substantial development of an integrated baggage system across Heathrow, a new baggage tunnel between Terminals 3 and 5 is expected to become operational in 2012.
At Stansted, £100 million is being invested over the five years to 2014 on modernising the airport’s existing infrastructure.
In Scotland, terminals at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports have recently been extended. The developments offer increased capacity, an improved retail experience, and upgraded security search areas.
