Edinburgh Airport, located just over 5 miles from the center of this vibrant business and leisure capital, was the busiest airport in Scotland in 2009. More than 40 airlines serve 115 destinations and some nine million passengers a year pass through the airport – figures which are set to continue growing as Scotland's international connections develop.
BAA has been carrying out a multi-million pound plan to develop the airport into one of the most modern transatlantic gateways in Europe, with flights to destinations as far afield as Newark, New York and Toronto. These improvements include a much larger arrivals hall, a £40m extension to the departure lounge, a new security search area, resurfacing of the main runway and additional car parking facilities.
The airport’s ambitious investment plan over the next decade includes the extension of the current runway to allow for larger aircraft, and even the possibility of constructing a new runway and terminal towards 2020.
