Through its subsidiary Cintra, Ferrovial is one of the biggest private toll highway developers in the world, both in terms of number of projects and total capital invested.
With over 40 years experience in developing innovative highway management systems, and with a presence on three continents, Cintra offers solutions to transport problems and is committed to developing a safer and more comfortable travel experience on the highways it operates.
Cintra has a portfolio of 25 concessions distributed throughout Spain, Canada, United States, Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Chile, including the 407 ETR, Chicago Skyway, North Tarrant Express and LBJ Express.
Cintra manages over 2,900 km of highways with a total investment of approximately 19 billion euro, in addition to a car parking contract in Serrano Park, Madrid.
By seeking the most attractive investment projects, irrespective of their geographic location, Cintra has achieved a strong presence abroad.
At closure of the financial period for 2009, 75% of the revenues and 85% of the EBITDA came from projects outside Spain.
In Europe, Cintra is working on the Irish government’s highway plan and is looking into the development of tender procedures in Spain and Portugal as well as projects which are currently being planned in the United Kingdom.
In North America, following the success achieved with the financing of the North Tarrant Express, it is expected that the Managed Lanes model will predominate in future public tenders. Cintra expects opportunities to arise in states with the greatest potential for projects of this type, such as Georgia or California, as well as new opportunities in states where these projects are more traditional, such as Texas, Virginia and Florida.
In Canada, Ontario and British Columbia are seen as the most active regions in which it is hoped to bid for at least one project during 2010.
