In accordance with its new Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Ferrovial confirms its active role in projects rather than merely assuming the more traditional role of funds provider. The Social Infrastructures program has established the following possibilities for collaboration with development cooperation organizations:

Professional advice

Ferrovial professionals with their various profiles and skills (civil and hydraulic engineers, architects, etc) offer their assistance to NGOs providing their work and know-how in the NGO’s projects, albeit in the field or in the workplace. This advisory capacity has resulted from a collaboration agreement between the two entities which will ensure long term cooperation in this area.

Volunteers with expertise and experience with large scale catastrophes

Ferrovial professionals also offer their services to NGOs when humanitarian aid is required in the aftermath of natural catastrophes, either working in an advisory capacity in the workplace, or actively in the field, as the company has trained up a team of experts ready to act in such situations.

Active cooperation projects

Ferrovial undertakes to replicate the collaboration model between NGO, company and governments, with a view to incorporating the lessons learned in this first experience in other areas of Africa needing basic infrastructures. The goal is to promote a development cooperation project in collaboration with an NGO in the country in question which will have the following characteristics:

  • Funded 100% by Ferrovial.
  • Managed through a Committee with representatives from the NGO and the company, in which the latter would act as technical advisor for the infrastructure.
  • Able to absorb volunteers from Ferrovial in the field, depending on the needs of the actual project.

This year, Ferrovial has chosen the NGOs Plan España and ONGAWA, Engineering for Human Development to develop social infrastructure projects, namely, water supply and sewage networks in Peru and Tanzania, respectively.
