Environmental Impact Plan
Irrespective of whether or not there is a requirement for an Environmental Impact Study, an Environmental Management Plan is drawn up for every Ferrovial project, in response to the environmental control and monitoring requirements established in the project, to the Environmental Impact Declaration and to the procedures in Ferrovial’s Environmental Management System, certified according to the ISO 14001 standard.
The Environmental Management Plan requires appropriate environmental behavior from every center, by evaluating the environmental impact of the works beforehand, or by establishing environmental goals, among other requirements.
- Ferrovial identifies the environmental impact deriving from execution of the works and takes the necessary measures to reduce their effect.
- Luminous fencing of the work zone serves to strictly define the area, avoiding any unforeseen impact on the natural environment. Beaconing allows the definition of the zone to be cleared, along with access routes, materials and machinery storage areas, and any zones of particular ecological or archaeological sensitivity.
- Protective measures are also put in place to protect water quality when the work is performed in areas close to water sources. In order to avoid disturbing water sources and rivers, due to earth movements or other materials, infiltration trenches are dug in the work zone perimeter (for example, landfill areas) as well as the installation of sediment retention barriers, using mainly bales of straw or geo-textile layers, particularly at the base of embankments and in the vicinity of rivers and streams.
