(Ferrovial) Green Procurement

Ferrovial pays attention to the eco-design aspects of construction activities, mostly regarding the use of recycled or reused materials. For this reason, an IT application for knowledge management called i-purchases has been developed in the purchasing departments,  allowing to share information between national and international production centers .

This database includes information on suppliers who offer commonly used products with environmental improvements. These are primarily recycled materials, ranging from paving materials and acoustic insulation made from recycled rubber to street furniture, signage and pipes.

The services division has created its own green purchase guide, which includes specific products, equipment and manufacturers suited to meet their needs.

This tool allows searching for companies that commercialize environmental friendly products, and can impose searching criteria such as:

• Company’s location.
• Type of material (steel, wood, arid, solar panels, etc.).
• Type of infrastructure that is going to be constructed.
• Environmental certificates.
• Quality certificates.
• Raw material certificates, etc.

The database prosecutes being a useful tool in preparing edification offers to the clients, and also once the project has been assigned:

• Every offer proposed to our clients include as much as possible recycled, reused or environmental friendly construction materials, and it include too the certificates ensuring this characteristics. The database provides quickly, updated and easily this information during the offer elaboration process.
• Once the project has been assigned, the information contained in this database is used to detect the best opportunities in costs terms.
