The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Ferrovial has shown its commitment to sustainability by supporting the Spanish Agency for Cooperation (AECID) in the presentation of the “Study on the contribution of the company to the agenda of Sustainable Development Goals“, developed together with Forética . The presentation of the study was attended by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America, Fernando García Casas. Cristina Moral, Corporate Responsibility Manager, represented Ferrovial.

The SDG are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. These 17 Goals are based on the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals, but include new areas such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption and peace and justice, among other priorities. The Goals are interrelated and, usually, the key to success of one will involve the most frequently linked issues with another.

The report assesses the situation in seven countries (Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic) in terms of SDG, and identifies the lines of action and sectors with the greatest positive impact in achieving the Goals. It also analyses how the Spanish company based in Latin America and the Caribbean can contribute to the agendas of different countries in terms of Sustainable Development Goals.

The results obtained identify economic growth and decent work (SDG8) and industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9) as priority SDGs for the region. In the specific case of Spain, the analysis concludes that the least developed SDGs are 17 (Alliances to achieve the objectives), 15 (Land-based ecosystem life) and 14 (Underwater life). The goals with the highest level of development are 13 (Sustainable production and consumption) and 3 (Health and welfare).

The report also includes a guide to aid companies in decision-making and prioritizing ODS actions. The document contains 17 dossiers, one for each ODS, that facilitate the understanding and contribution of the company towards them, analysing the importance of the objective for sustainable development, the business sectors for which each of them are strategic, together with examples of actions and tools that can be used to contribute to them.
