Waste treatment plant Toledo Ecopark
The Toledo Ecopark processes 250,000 tonnes of waste produced annually in the Spanish province of Toledo by a population of 650,000. GESMAT, a company in which Ferrovial Services has a 60% stake, will operate this treatment plant for a period of 20 years.

Pursuant to the Urban Waste Management Plant for Spain’s Castilla-La Mancha region, Ferrovial Servicios is optimising the use of the resources contained within the waste, focusing on recovery, composting and recycling, as opposed to disposal.
Recovery of materials in the Toledo Ecopark will avoid close to 50,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, equivalent to the emissions from more than 20,000 cars in one year.
The Toledo Ecopark waste treatment plant uses state-of-the-art technologies, including automation of the selection and sorting process by means of two lines, each of which has the capacity to handle 35 tonnes of waste per hour, plus an additional line for producing SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel) from light materials contained in the waste stream which cannot be reused as byproducts.
The composting system in operation is a dynamic one, taking place in a closed warehouse and in two stages: fermentation and maturing, with intermediate and final curing systems. The process is complemented with modern facilities for odour control with acid gas scrubbers and biofilters.
Materials remaining after the composting, separation and sorting processes are disposed of in a controlled landfill located within the facilities. This landfill site has a capacity of 5.8 million m3, and is also used for depositing waste materials from another solid urban waste treatment plant operated by Ferrovial Services in Talavera de la Reina.
