Passengers with flights departing from <strong>Gate 25 in Terminal 3<\/strong> can now inhale fresh air and enjoy some natural rest and relaxation as they wait to board their flight. The plants have been carefully chosen and include the <a title=\"Peace Lily-Gardening know how\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gardeningknowhow.com\/houseplants\/peace-lily\/peace-lily-plants.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\"><strong>Peace Lily<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>English Ivy, <\/strong>plants that are used to keep the air fresh on the <a title=\"International Space Station-Nasa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/station\/main\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">International Space Station<\/a> owing to their distinct natural properties. The \u201cGarden Gate\u201d which was set up by green building specialist <a title=\"Biotecture UK\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biotecture.uk.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Biotecture<\/a> is made up of <strong>seven irrigated panels<\/strong> and has a total of <strong>1681 plants<\/strong>. If all goes to plan, the green wall could spread to other areas of the airport in the near future. Transportation hubs like Heathrow are an ideal spot for <strong>green infrastructure <\/strong>to become an investment in public health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time that a Ferrovial project has introduced a green wall. Museum and cultural centre <a title=\"Caixa Forum, Madrid-Ferrovial\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/projects\/caixaforum-madrid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Caixa Forum Madrid<\/a> is home to a <strong>vertical garden<\/strong> that was installed back in <strong>2008<\/strong>, making it the <strong>first of its kind in Spain<\/strong>.The garden which measures 460 square metres (4 storeys high) has a phenomenal 15,000 plants representing 250 different species. It was created by <a title=\"Botanist Patrick Blanc- Veritical Garden Patrick Blanc\" href=\"http:\/\/www.verticalgardenpatrickblanc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">botanist Patrick Blanc<\/a>, the inventor of the vertical garden, who is responsible for some of the most famous vertical gardens in Europe. Today the green wall is cared for by our very own <a title=\"Ferrovial Services\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/ferrovial-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">Ferrovial Service<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en\/business-lines\/ferrovial-services\/\">s<\/a>, ensuring that the plants get all the water and nutrients that they need.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/02\/13153834\/Caixaforum-vertical-garden.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19200\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/02\/13153834\/Caixaforum-vertical-garden.jpg\" alt=\"Caixa forum madrid vertical garden\" width=\"600\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/02\/13153834\/Caixaforum-vertical-garden.jpg 600w, https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/02\/13153834\/Caixaforum-vertical-garden-300x263.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So what are the benefits of vertical gardens? And why are so many companies investing in this type of green architecture? Vertical gardens have many important\u00a0<strong>aesthetic, economic, physiological and environmental benefits<\/strong>. Here are some of them&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>Find out the benefits of vertical gardens<\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Vertical Gardens &#8211; The aesthetic benefits<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As Australian painter Sir <a title=\"William Dobell-Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Dobell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">William Dobell<\/a> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;A sincere artist is not one who makes a faithful attempt to put on to canvas what is in front of him, but one who tries to create something which is, in itself, a living thing.&#8221;<\/em><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Vertical gardens are a great way to both maximise limited space and\u00a0<strong>reclaim disregarded space<\/strong> by transforming empty space into something aesthetically pleasing and <strong>creatively stimulating<\/strong>. Urban heat island (UHI) refers to a city or metropolitan area that is significantly warmer than the surrounding rural areas because of human activities.<\/li>\n<li>Clean the outside air of pollutants and dust and also help to offset the <a title=\"Carbon footprint\" href=\"\/?p=10508\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">carbon footprint<\/a> of both people and fuel emissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Plants also <strong>improve indoor air quality<\/strong> as they <strong>remove harmful VOCs<\/strong> (<a title=\"Volatile organic compounds-Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Volatile_organic_compound\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">volatile organic compounds<\/a>) and other harmful toxins like benzene and formaldehyde.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Act as a <strong>natural sound proofing barrier<\/strong>. The vegetated surface blocks high frequency sounds, and when built with a substrate or growing medium support they can also block out low-frequency noises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Increase biodiversity<\/strong> by creating habitats for birds and insects. Dr. Lohr discovered that people working in an environment with plants present were <a title=\"Good Earth Plants\" href=\"http:\/\/www.goodearthplants.com\/why-plants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow\">12% more productive and less stressed<\/a> than those who worked in an environment without plants.There are numerous other studies that highlight the positive impact of green spaces upon human well being. Honeyman 1987 found that buildings that feature and promote access to vegetation have a greater positive human health impact than those without.
