Though very close to each other, they are separated by a deep ravine, the<a title=\"Barranco de Erques\" href=\"http:\/\/www.webtenerife.com\/que-visitar\/otros-espacios-naturales\/barranco-erques.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\"> Barranco de Erques<\/a>, a protected landscape <strong>running for 13 km<\/strong> which is home to rock plants, balo shrubs, spurges, and pine trees at the highest point, as well as protected animal species. Archaeological remains have also be found there, together with abandoned agricultural terraces, some galleries and traces of old stone paths.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/13153734\/erques-viaduct-tenerife-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-19493\" src=\"https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/03\/13153735\/erques-viaduct-tenerife-e1488386921583.jpg\" alt=\"erques viaduct in Tenerife ferrovial\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Viaduct construction- cutting the distance<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Erques viaduct was built over this unique landscape with the aim of joining two of Tenerife\u2019s most populated municipalities, while protecting the flora and fauna of the natural environment. When we think of infrastructures of this magnitude, we rarely reflect on how they were built. What stages does the construction project go through? How are all the different components prepared? How does it all get to the building site?<\/p>\n<h4>The four stages of viaduct construction<\/h4>\n<p>Here is a summary, in<strong> four parts<\/strong>, of construction of the massive infrastructure of the Barranco de Erques viaduct by the Ferrovial Agroman team.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First of all, <strong>excavation<\/strong> works were carried out and foundations were poured. At the same time, in the Italian town of <a title=\"Carbonara Scrivia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.comune.carbonarascrivia.al.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"dofollow noopener\">Carbonara Scrivia <\/a>in the Piamonte region, the tubes for the arches were formed by means of a cold bending process. The stay cables for holding the deck were manufactured in the German city of <a title=\"Hamburg city-Wikipedia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hamburg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hamburg.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the tubes had been bent, they were transported to a workshop in Seville where they were assembled to make the arches, together with the rest of the metallic structure, all weighing over <strong>500 tonnes.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>This structure was shipped to the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and then continued its journey to the construction site by special transportation.
