We&#8217;re unaware of the vast number of benefits and functions that trees can have and which ones we can use in our development as a society.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Since ancient times, the tree has represented life in different mythological, philosophical, and religious traditions. In Christianity with the\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tree of life<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">; in ancient Egypt with the\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">acacia of Saosis<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">; and in Islam with\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the tree of immortality<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Why has what was a precious asset throughout our species&#8217; history been cast aside in our present-day cities?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Of course, the exception is that trees are ornamental in our surroundings: they dehumanize and\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">de-artificialize<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(a term coined by the French Office for Biodiversity&#8217;s Resource Center for Ecological Inventiveness). There are, as we&#8217;ve mentioned, many factors and benefits that trees offer us and directly affect our day-to-day lives. Here are a few of them:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Ferrovial\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"0\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Reducing existing air pollution.<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Today, given the increase in large cities&#8217; population and\u00a0the flight from\u00a0rural areas, cities are getting denser. This, along with higher pollutant emissions into the air, makes tree\u00a0reduction\u00a0a dangerous and significant factor in caring for air quality.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Through photosynthesis and their conversion of carbon dioxide into nutrients and oxygen, trees can help improve air quality and therefore mitigate pollution and greenhouse gases.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A tree can absorb an average of 10 kg of CO2 per year. Thus, trees, along with oceans, are considered the biggest &#8220;<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">carbon sinks<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.&#8221; Species like the Aleppo pine can absorb about 50 tons of CO2 in a year.
