Railway underpass jacking solutions

We are specialized in using this solution to create railway and road underpasses.

The jacking method allows us to create the entire structure outside the infrastructure platform and later, by means of a simultaneous excavation and movement phase, the structure is placed in its final position without affecting the existing infrastructure.

Concrete caisson jacking

This horizontal push or movement is called jacking and is usually performed using jacks. Caissons are heavy and are usually concrete structures measuring between five and fifteen meters long and between eight and ten meters deep. They are used for various reasons: road underpasses, animal crossings, water drainage systems, etc.

Process to guarantee construction site safety

This construction technique stands out for its process and the specific needs of the system when it comes to guaranteeing safety. We follow the following process in our construction work:

  1. After bracing the track area where the caisson will go with a metallic crossbeam and bracing tracks, the hole is partially excavated. Trains can run uninterrupted.
  2. Perpendicular to the track, a fully horizontal sliding bed is constructed where the caisson will be placed and moved. It is also covered with a polyethylene surface (gauge sheet) to prevent adherence.
  3. A vertical reaction wall (50 cm tall) is built to hold the hydraulic jacks that will push the caisson. Likewise, a series of lateral guides are built to control the direction and movements of the caisson.
  4. Then the caisson structure is built and is allowed to harden (it is usually made of concrete). Two leading edges and with wedge-shaped walls are added to the front of the caisson to cut the land as it moves forward. A skid is also added to help it ascend as it progresses.

During the jacking process, the bracing tracks serve as tracks and trains move at a speed of 30 km/h. Under them, the leading edges of the caisson open a hole and an excavator removes the material inside the caisson as it moves forward. One of the strong points of this technique is that it maintains road safety at all times.
