country&#8217;s two main cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The section of the A8 between Baillieston and Newhouse was converted  into a multi-lane highway. The Raith Interchange was also upgraded, as well as various sections of the M8.<\/p>\n    \n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Milestones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The M8 Scottish Highways improvements project was awarded to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.transport.gov.scot\/projects\/m8-m73-m74-motorway-improvements\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Scottish Roads Partnership<\/a>  (SRP) consortium in August 2013. The commercial and financial deal was  closed in February 2014. Construction finished in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project Planning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>28.6 kilometres of highway<\/strong> involved: 12.4 kilometres of new  construction and 16.2 kilometres of upgraded existing roadways. The concession period will be <strong>thirty-three (33) years<\/strong> from the signature of  the Contract. This is an availability payment project and therefore  payments to the concessionaire are pegged to the level of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local development<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en-ca\/cintra\/\">Cintra<\/a> thus becomes a key developer on the Scottish market. The  Company mitigated the <strong>congestion in the area<\/strong> and boosted local<strong> development<\/strong> through the creation of nearly <strong>1,000 jobs<\/strong> during the  construction communities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our projects serve as an economic engine for growth, supporting the well-being of the communities where we work and live.&nbsp;We worked with the consulting firm, Steer, to prepare the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ferrovial.com\/en\/press_releases\/ferrovials-highways-drive-26-billion-in-economic-value-in-the-us-more-than-64-billion-globally\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Economic and Community Impact of Ferrovial\u2019s Toll Roads<\/a>&nbsp;report. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study measured the economic value generated in the regions we invest in
