Some\n of these are the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Pollutant retaining tanks.<\/strong>\n To consider the eventuality that potential spills as a result of road \naccidents on motorways could pose a risk of pollution to water courses, \nretaining tanks have been provided in association with the longitudinal \ndrainage of viaducts in areas where river basins run close to the \nmotorway. This avoids pollutants reaching the rivers, and further allows\n sediments washed by rains to be evacuated through the same channels.<\/li><li><strong>Sediment retention barriers.<\/strong>\n In order to avoid soil erosion and ensure that sediment washed along by\n rains does not reach water courses, Cintra has provided sediment \nretention barriers in all of its motorways.<\/li><li><strong>Control of winter road maintenance.<\/strong>\n Using salt to ensure motorways remain open over the winter is an \nextended practice. However, incorrect storage of salt or bad practices \nin its application on roads can lead to the salinization of bodies of \nwater lying close to the motorway. To avoid this, Cintra stores its salt\n reserves in specially protected facilities, where they are protected \nfrom the weather and stored on waterproof surfaces. Moreover, estimates \nand studies have been carried out in order to ensure that only the \nnecessary amounts are applied in accordance with prevailing snow \nconditions, the state of the road surface or weather predictions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n aim of all of these measures is to guarantee that any bodies of water \nwhich could potentially be affected by the motorway are protected to
