class=\"wp-block-heading\">Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the&nbsp;<strong>10 poorest countries in the world. <\/strong>The province of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.es\/maps\/place\/North-Kivu,+Democratic+Republic+of+the+Congo\/@-0.5517988,27.4716229,8z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x19e0865560e56fc3:0x341e4dce5d8e1b94!8m2!3d-0.7917729!4d29.0459927\">North Kivu<\/a>&nbsp;has\n the highest poverty rates in the country: 60% of the population is \npoor, with most living on less than a dollar per day. Goma, the capital \nof North Kivu, has a population of close to one million people, half of \nwhich are displaced persons. Armed groups, the illegal diamond trade and\n the continuing armed conflict have made this the <strong>most insecure city in Africa<\/strong>. Women and children are the most vulnerable group. The city of Goma ranks first in the world in terms of <strong>number of rapes<\/strong>: every month, 1152 women are abused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n project will provide integrated support to 200 women and young persons \nwho have suffered sexual violence in the area of armed conflict around \nGoma, in North Kivu (Democratic Republic of Congo), supporting their <strong>psychological and emotional<\/strong> recovery and their <strong>social and economic<\/strong>\n wellbeing so that they can return to a life of dignity.
