Major projects such as the extension of the Las Arenas dam in Biscay and the Ciudad Universitaria in Madrid made it one of the leading construction companies in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>1952 Ferrovial was founded by Rafael del Pino y Moreno in central Madrid<\/strong>, taking its name from the Spanish word for railway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>1958 Ferrovial\u2019s first major project was the rail link between Las Rozas and Chamartin in Madrid<\/strong> \u2013 with 30km of track laid in 30 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>1995 Ferrovial bought Agroman <\/strong>and formed Ferrovial Agroman.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/m-wysiwig>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div slot=\"item\" class=\"wp-block-components-accordion-item\"><div class=\"m-accordion__item\"><h4>2000&#8217;s<c-icon icon=\"arrow\" size=\"m\"><\/c-icon><\/h4><\/div><div class=\"m-accordion__content\">\n<m-wysiwig class=\"wp-block-components-wysiwyg\"><div slot=\"maincontent\"><\/div><\/m-wysiwig>\n\n\n\n<m-wysiwig class=\"wp-block-components-wysiwyg\"><div slot=\"maincontent\">\n<p>Our presence in the<strong> British-Irish market began in 2002 with the establishment of FAI Ltd\u00b4s headquarters in Dublin<\/strong>. During the next three years, we were awarded the M4-M6 Kilcock-Kinnegad motorway project, the M3 motorway Clonee Kells project (recognized as the largest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferrovial.com\/en-gb\/business\/public-private-partnership-ppp\/\">PPP <\/a>ever in the country) and the first trans-border motorway in the A1-N1 corridor; our first ever NEC type contract and the project that marked the beginning of our activities in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our activities in the United Kingdom began <strong>in<\/strong> <strong>2004, when the Amey-Ferrovial led consortium was awarded the DBFO2 highway project<\/strong>, one of the largest Private Finance Initiative (PFI) in the history of Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>2005 we began working in the Ireland market <\/strong>\u2013 within two years we were awarded<br>the largest project ever undertaken in Ireland \u2013 the 50km M3 motorway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two years later, <strong>in 2006, the consortium was awarded a large PFI for schools in Leeds and Bradford<\/strong>, marking our first construction activities in England. This same year we established FAUK Ltd in London as we started work on the widening of the M50 ring highway in Dublin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>2007, we were awarded our first contract with Heathrow Airport Holdings Limited (BAA) <\/strong>for the construction of the T5C Connectivity Baggage Tunnel and in 2008, we began the runway rehabilitation project at Aberdeen Airport in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awarded <strong>Heathrow Airport T5C Baggage Tunnel project by BAA in 2008<\/strong>. Delivered \u00a312m under budget with a 25% programme reduction, the HSE recognised it as the safest ever tunnelling project (at the time).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/m-wysiwig>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div slot=\"item\" class=\"wp-block-components-accordion-item\"><div class=\"m-accordion__item\"><h4>2010&#8217;s<c-icon icon=\"arrow\" size=\"m\"><\/c-icon><\/h4><\/div><div class=\"m-accordion__content\">\n<m-wysiwig class=\"wp-block-components-wysiwyg\"><div slot=\"maincontent\">\n<p>One of <strong>our biggest contracts came in 2010 with the design and construction of the new terminal <\/strong>T2A and the T3IB Integrated Baggage Building, both at Heathrow Airport. During this time, we began new road constructions in Ireland which led to prestigious recognitions such as the <em>Major Contractor of the Year 2010<\/em> and the <em>Construction Excellence Award 2011<\/em>. We also formed the BFK consortium which was awarded three Crossrail projects in London including the construction of two tunnels, connecting Royal Oak with Paddington and Farringdon stations and the new Farringdon station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>2011 we were awarded with the Crossrail C300 Western Running Tunnels<\/strong> \u2013 at 6.8km the second longest drive \u2013 and C410 station caverns at Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In 2012, we won our very first ECI project with the A8 highway project in Northern Ireland<\/strong>. A year later we were awarded, in partnership with Amey and Lagan, the M8\/M74\/M75 Road Improvement Scheme in Scotland which included the design, operations and maintenance of the entire highway. <strong>As top performing contractor on Crossrail, we were awarded the new Farringdon Station Contract<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In<strong> 2013 we were awarded with the M8\/M73\/M74 Road Improvement Scheme<\/strong>, providing end-to-end capability on Scotland\u2019s busiest motorway, with over 100,000 road users per day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2014 was a very successful year for us as we completed the outset of the Queen\u2019s Terminal at<\/strong> <strong>Heathrow Airport<\/strong> in June and the TBM tunneling operations between Royal Oak and Farringdon in February; plus were awarded the contract for Heathrow\u00b4s Q6 Lot 3 and the realignment of the Bravo taxiway. These achievements not only placed us in a good position to be awarded the Northern Line extension for the London Underground in September 2014, but they also helped progress our expansion strategy in the UK, with the award of the Eastern Bay Link road in Cardiff in December of this same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As our reputation in the British-Irish market continued to strengthen, our projects and capabilities continued to grow as well. <strong>In 2015, we were awarded the Central section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel in London and formed the FUSION JV with Morgan Sindall and BAM Nuttall<\/strong>; as a way to connect the expertise, innovation and resources of each leading firm and provide engineering solutions for large, complex infrastructure in the UK and across the world. This same year, one of our engineers won the <em>Rising Star of the Year Award<\/em> and were awarded 4 new substantial contracts as a Heathrow Q6 Delivery Integrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>2016 our TBMs started the 2.5km drive from Battersea to Kennington to extend London Underground\u2019s Northern Line<\/strong>, including two new stations, Battersea and Nine Elms. Many of our projects during this year were recognised for their environmental innovations including the Northern Line extension and our Crossrail projects with the <em>Green Apple Award<\/em>, the crossrail at Farringdon Station with the <em>Ground Engineering Award 2016<\/em> <em>for Technical Excellence <\/em>and our digital innovation techniques and BIM implementation in the M8\/M74\/M75 highway projects with the <em>Irish BIM Innovation Award<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>2017 we were awarded with the Enabling Works contract to prepare the 102km central section of High Speed 2 (HS2)<\/strong> \u2013 supporting the largest archaeological programme in UK history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same year we reached several milestones including the opening of the Eastern Bay Link project in Wales, the competition of the 3.2 km tunnel on the Northern Line Extension, the release of our low carbon infrastructure report in support of the UK\u00b4s Green Building Council, the launch of a 100% electric fleet of zero-emission vehicles across our airport project and the creation of the <em>Stop. Make A Change, Health &amp; Wellbeing<\/em> week to promote improvements in construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our consistent health and safety practices across our business placed us in the <strong>top 2.5% of applicants for the <em>British Safety Council Awards<\/em> in 2018<\/strong>. In this same year, we signed the Inclusive Culture Pledge to mark our commitment to remain a highly diverse company, while six if our employees were finalists at the <em>Women in Construction &amp; Engineering Awards<\/em>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>2019, the RiverLinx consortium was appointed to deliver the \u00a31bn Silvertown tunnel project <\/strong>following a three-year procurement process by Transport for London, saving road users 1 million hours of delays each year and creating 286,000 new jobs by 2036. Additionally, numerous achievements took place across our projects including the largest underground rail crossover of the London Underground network at the Northern Line Extension, handover of vital stands packages for Heathrow Airport Limited two months ahead of schedule and the signature of Civil Works Final Construction Certificate for Farringdon Station.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/m-wysiwig>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div slot=\"item\" class=\"wp-block-components-accordion-item\"><div class=\"m-accordion__item\"><h4>2020&#8217;s<c-icon icon=\"arrow\" size=\"m\"><\/c-icon><\/h4><\/div><div class=\"m-accordion__content\">\n<m-wysiwig class=\"wp-block-components-wysiwyg\"><div slot=\"maincontent\">\n<p>In <strong>2020 we changed our name to Ferrovial Construction <\/strong>signifying our alignment with the Group\u2019s brand.
