access via the   commuter rail network, known within the construction project as &#8220;Access   to the new terminal at Barcelona Airport. Commuter rail network of   Barcelona.&#8221;<\/p>\n    \n\n\n<p>At the end of 2018, the final section of the tunnel connecting the R2  line from Rodalies with Terminal 1 at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport was  finished.&nbsp;In the <strong>3,048-meter<\/strong> tunnel, \u201cGala,\u201d the tunneling machine that is <strong>10.6 meters in diameter<\/strong>,  was used, crossing Terminal 2 as well as the Airport\u2019s Main Runway, the  two most important points due to their uniqueness. Its dismantling is  currently underway, and work is continuing on the future Multimodal  Station in Terminal 2. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/m-wysiwig>\n\n\n    <m-video >\n                <a class='m-video__modal' slot='modal' href='https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/PxsO3slIfqQ'>\n            <img slot=\"poster\" v-lazy=\"'https:\/\/static.ferrovial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/13135051\/tuneladora-cale-aeropuerto-barcelona-1280x720.jpg'\" title=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"100%\" >\n        <\/a>\n                        <h3 slot=\"title\">\n                                       <\/h3>\n                    <\/m-video>\n    \n\n\n<m-wysiwig class=\"wp-block-components-wysiwyg\"><div slot=\"maincontent\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Project description<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The project entails the railway connection between the Barcelona Airport and El Prat del Llobregat, with a total length of <strong>4,495<\/strong>\n meters, 3,385 meters of which is underground. Some 3,048 meters of that\n stretch are excavated using the tunneling machine. The tunnel is dug \nwith the EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) tunneling machine, with an EPB \nshield on front, which has an excavating diameter of 10.6 m and a 9.6 m \ninterior diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tunneling is happening in the municipal \ndistricts of El Prat de Llobregat and Sant Boi, and the new access will \nhave stations at both terminals of the Barcelona Airport. The first stop\n is located at the future Multimodal Hub in T2, as the current \nconnecting gateway between the current Commuter Rail Station and T2 will\n no longer be there. The route will then run under the airfield to \nconnect with the new terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Current status<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The tunnel\u2019s\n first kilometer, which runs from where it meets up with the commuter \nrail system to the new opening, is totally finished, as are the <strong>sheet piling<\/strong>, <strong>walls<\/strong>, and <strong>slabs of the stretch<\/strong> that will run above ground; so are <strong>the screens<\/strong>, <strong>jet-grouting<\/strong>, and <strong>the false tunnel\u2019s upper<\/strong> and<strong> lower slabs<\/strong>.\n Excavation for this section started in September of 2017 with the \ninstallation of the tunneling machine and the necessary additions for \ndigging (strips, earth pits, voussoiring, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The enclosure\u2019s  excavation at the future commuter rail station at Terminal 2 is  currently underway, with the screens, jet-grouting, and upper and middle  slabs already
