We Are Committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 Agenda
By 2030, the whole world will have access to clean water, infrastructures will be more sustainable and resilient, and cities will be safer and more inclusive. These are some of the dreams for a more sustainable and equal world reflected in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Here at Ferrovial, we share those dreams.
On September 25, 2015, world leaders from 193 countries signed the agreement to establish the 17 objectives, divided in 169 targets, to stop and mitigate the effects of climate change, promote social and economic equality, eradicate poverty and hunger, foster sustainable production systems and consumption habits, and construct structures that guarantee peace and justice. And all of this has a deadline: 2030.
The SDG’s, Infrastructures and Mobility
The commitment of companies — especially infrastructure and mobility management companies — is essential to bringing the SDGs to life. The level of influence and leverage the private sector has can largely contribute to fulfilling the agenda for sustainable development.
In one way or another, our activities have an impact on almost all the goals. That is why — with the aim of reinforcing our implication in attaining the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals — we became a joint partner of the UN. We form part of the private sector advisory group of the United Nations Development Programme.
Our specific goal is to find the best way to integrate SDGs into private sector strategies and encourage new companies to get involved in reaching these goals. After analyzing the areas where we could make a larger contribution, we decided to focus mainly on these three Sustainable Development Goals:
- SDG 6. Clean water and sanitation
- SDG 9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- SDG 11. Sustainable cities and communities
