class=\"wp-block-components-wysiwyg\"><div slot=\"maincontent\">    <p class=\"intro\">The Northern Beaches Hospital Connectivity and Network Enhancement (NBCaNE) project was awarded in June 2015 by Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to the Ferrovial York Joint Venture.\nThe project consists of the design and construction of a suite of roadworks to enhance arterial and sub-arterial road network connectivity in the proposed Northern Beaches Hospital precinct at Frenchs Forest.<\/p>\n    \n\n\n<p>The overall project will be undertaken in two Stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage 1: Connectivity Enhancement Works, is the provision of essential road works to enhance connectivity to the hospital. It includes the upgrade of Frenchs Forest Road East, West and Naree Road from a single to dual carriageway, improving pedestrian access as well as bus stop upgrades servicing the hospital. This has been successfully completed and delivered<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 2: Network Enhancement Works, to improve the broader network capacity. This includes upgrading Warringah Road to improve the performance of the road network to reduce congestion around the hospital and the construction of a 1.3km long underpass and three underpass bridges. It also includes key intersection improvements, bus stop upgrades, new shared paths and new pedestrian bridges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These upgrades will provide customers with a better travel experience, increase the capacity of the road network and improve access through the area, including for pedestrians and cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Realignment and upgrade of existing roads in a very congested urban area with heavy traffic conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Early Contractor Involvement procurement tender in close collaboration with RMS to maximise project objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Relocation, removal and protection of numerous utilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgrade of intersections controlled by traffic signals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challenging pavement-widening conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complex community management and stakeholder interfaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Technical Challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The project team is undertaking the works in a very demanding urban environment including a high number of utilities relocation works and strict traffic and community requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Utilities Relocation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The project must accommodate ten utility service providers and their requirements for relocation. The site is challenging, with very limited room within other service corridors. Key constraints include underground and overhead electrical lines to be relocated, significant water main pipes for underground water, sewerage and storm water, high pressure gas works, significant pipe jacking of utilities underneath Warringah Road and telecommunication lines contained within asbestos conduits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Traffic Management<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The effective management of traffic and pedestrians has been paramount to the successful day-to-day activities during the construction phase as the works need to be undertaken adjacent to live traffic and pedestrians, in a heavily congested area.
