class=\"intro\">Ecological recovery of embankments and the Maytenus bush on the section of Mediterranean Highway (A-7) between Polopos and the Albu\u00f1ol junction (Granada).<\/p>\n    \n\n\n<p>The complex relief and tectonic composition of the ground at the site of the stretch of the&nbsp;<strong>A7<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Autov\u00eda del Mediterr\u00e1neo<\/em>) between the&nbsp;<strong>Polopos<\/strong>&nbsp;link and the&nbsp;<strong>Albu\u00f1ol<\/strong>&nbsp;link in&nbsp;<strong>Granada<\/strong>&nbsp;required extensive clearance works on arid grounds, where<strong>&nbsp;landscape recovery is particularly difficult<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, we decided to carry out a process of&nbsp;<strong>ecological restoration<\/strong>&nbsp;of embankments and&nbsp;<strong>recovery of populations<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<em>Maytenus senegalensis<\/em>&nbsp;(buckthorn). The work carried out included the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reuse of excavated earth to reduce the need for areas given over to landfill and use of&nbsp;<strong>new raw materials<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modification of embankment surfaces to favor planting of species endemic to dry coastal areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optimal adaptation of the&nbsp;<strong>shape of embankment<\/strong>s to pre-existing relief, maintaining original gradient and orientations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Micro-terraces and rough finishings of embankment surfaces to&nbsp;<strong>compensate for the lack of vegetation<\/strong> characteristic of the area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recovery of populations of&nbsp;<strong>buckthorn<\/strong>, endemic to warm coastal areas of northern Africa and the Iberian Peninsula.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase in plantation of&nbsp;<strong>467%<\/strong>&nbsp;compared to the original project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reuse of all excavated earth<\/strong>, thereby minimizing transport and use of new construction materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This project has shown the technical feasibility of ecological restoration of a highly arid ecosystem with outcomes of revegetation much above conventional results in terms of diversity of species, as well as landscape integrity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/m-wysiwig>\n\n\n    <m-projects-distributor2
