Ontario Line South
Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are to design, build and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (South Civil) package.
Working together as Ontario Transit Group we are currently mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?
- A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
- Stations:
- One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
- Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
- Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown)

Drainage Engineer – Are you the perfect fit?
The Drainage Engineer is responsible for the overall coordination of Drainage design, including the coordination of the team dedicated to developing hydraulic and hydrology designs, change orders, and optimizations for the project.
Specific duties will include, but not be limited to, performing complex drainage engineering studies, developing innovative stormwater solutions, preparing drainage reports, creating drainage facility construction details and assembling drainage construction plans and specifications consistent with project specifications and standards and/or applicable agency guidelines. This individual will also be responsible for organizing and planning project schedules and activities required for drainage design.
The Drainage Engineer will work on an interdisciplinary team including geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, MEP engineers and construction engineers to perform engineering analysis and design in support of the project
What you will undertake:
Develops and/or supervises the creation of engineering services and products that meet customer quality requirements.
- Typical products may include detailed design calculations and modelling, construction drawings, procurement documents, design and specification packages, proposal evaluations and technical reports.
- Provides guidance and justification for supplemental engineering activities, as required to evaluate the site-specific project conditions.
- Coordinates and guides a design team to develop a cost-effective drainage design of complex highways, railroads, transit projects and runways; as well as the associated preparation of plans and reports for the various design phases: Preliminary design, 60% design, 100% design and IFCs. Focus on design optimizations and design alternatives required.
- Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, Engineers and other personnel working on the same or related projects.
- Identifying objectives and formulating options for the concepts of the project;
- Following up with the established key work priorities for development of design, construction.
- Managing hydrology including flood studies, drainage, and storm water management;
- Evaluating alternatives to develop solutions.
- Performs other duties as needed related to the scope of work described above.
- Overseeing quality technical and design control; and coordinating and communicating regularly with management, consultants and team members regarding project status ensuring work meets field and client’s requirements.
- Applying engineering and managerial practices to ensure that the development effort consistently generates deliverables which support the requirements for validation.
- Assigning the priority of which tasks are to be performed with a continuous tracking schedule. Supports workload deadlines for on time submittals.
- Coordination and project specific meetings with clients, engineering consultants and other stakeholders to discuss on and solve design and construction related topics.
- Leading the consultant’s design engineers to manage all the works related to drainage matters, thereby ensuring the best management practices are applied in the designs developed for the company, taking into consideration for all regulations, and complying with the technical provisions of the contract including flooding risk and storm water management in the project.
- Responsible for the estimation of Bills of Quantities.
- Perform studies on applicable specifications for performing the specified work in the plans.
- Assists on field observation work when necessary.
What do we ask for?
- Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
- At least 7 years of experience in the drainage design of freeways, railways, transit projects, interstate highways, and interchanges.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in at least one Province in Canada, or the ability to obtain registration in Ontario within 6 months.
- Previous experience leading drainage design teams and external consultants required.
- Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software (Civil 3D, Autocad, Infoworks (required), Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM360), and other applicable common software in the field of and other applicable software common to the field of drainage engineering, like HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY8, etc.
- Demonstrated qualities of leadership and hard work
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings and specifications
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must possess strong attention to detail and can work in a fast-paced environment; an eagerness to learn and apply your engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs/ideas
