Project Description:
The Ontario Line South Civil Project is responsible for the design, construction and handover of all tunnels, stations and civil works between Exhibition Station and a portal location within the Don Yard. This includes, without limitation, seven Stations (one at grade and six underground stations), 6 km of Tunnels, a range of civil works and ancillary building works, and successful handover of the constructed South Civil
Tasks:

Maintenance of Traffic engineering on Civil Construction projects.

Work under the direction and supervision of the Civil Design Manager, and collaboratively coordinating with other disciplines.

Work with the design team to develop a cost-effective design of detours of complex highways, railroads, and runways; as well as the associated preparation of plans and reports for the various design phases: Preliminary design, 60% design, 100% design and IFCs. Focus on design optimizations and design alternatives required.

Due diligence and review of MOT designs provided by engineers as well as subconsultants; performing quality control reviews of work performed by others.

Coordinate with construction personnel to understand logistics of construction that could influence the design of construction phasing based on available space around scaffoldings and molds.

Work on the modeling of different construction phases in Vissim, or similar software, that could be necessary for the approval of detours, and extended closure periods.

Track progress against design schedule. Review and approve tasks to ensure deadlines are met.

Working in a multidisciplinary environment, actively communicating with the rest of team members also involved in the design and construction works to identify needs and evaluate alternative solutions.

Coordination and project specific meetings with clients, engineering consultants and other stakeholders to discuss on and solve design and construction related topics.

Production of the estimation of Bills of Quantities related to MOT plans.

Perform studies on applicable specifications to implement the specified work in the plans.

Assists on field observation work when necessary.

Performs other duties, as needed, related to the scope of work described above.
Qualifications:
-
Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering, preferably obtained from a Canadian accredited college or university.

Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in at least one Province, or ability to obtain registration in the Province of Ontario within 6 months of employment.

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the detailed design of freeways, interstate highways and complex interchanges (MOT design).

Previous experience working with MOT design teams and external consultants required.

Familiarity with relevant manuals and codes with respect to MOT design. Knowledge of Ontario and Toronto local practices preferred.

Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software (Civil 3D, Autocad, Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM360), and other applicable common software in the field of transportation engineering. Knowledge and experience working with ProjectWise desirable.

Demonstrated qualities of team and hard work.

Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, and specifications.

Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess strong attention to detail and can work in a fast-paced environment; eagerness to learn and apply engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs/ideas.
