The Ontario Line South Civil Project is responsible for the design, construction and handover of all tunnels, stations and civil works between Exhibition Station and a portal location within the Don Yard. This includes, without limitation, seven Stations (one at grade and six underground stations), 6 km of Tunnels, a range of civil works and ancillary building works, and successful handover of the constructed South Civil
Description:
Reporting to the Geotechnical and Underground Works Design Manager, the Tunnels and Underground Works Design Senior Engineer will:

Support the conceptual design, engineering analysis, procurement and construction of major infrastructure projects.

Responsible for all technical work pertaining to solving tunneling and underground works design problems and review of design calculations

Prepare specialized reports on underground works, including but not limited to excavation methods, options for soil and rock primary support, linings (including TBM precast tunnel ones), impermeabilization, ground improvement, etc.

Analyze ground movements predictions, construction impact assessment reports, and the strategies for mitigation of risk.

Propose and analyze monitoring systems and its implementation.

Discuss with the Client and with the Designer’s specialists on specialized items. Lead the collaborative efforts with all the parties to solve complex underground issues, related to modeling, soil structure interaction, ground improvement, risk mitigation and other topics.

Ensure all tunnel and underground designs are in accordance with the Ferrovial Group’s standards and Contract requirements.

Provide technical input to the Risk matrix, as well as to other documents to be internally developed by Ferrovial

Ensure that tunnel and underground works principles and analyses are appropriately understood and applied in design.

Review the work of all underground works engineers and outside consultants engaged in the project development, engineering and design.

Lead the efforts for creating analytical two and three-dimensional models under direction from the Geotechnical and Underground Works Design Manager.

Ensure that tunnel-related inputs to the BOQ are precise, back-up is clearly explained, and there are no relevant concepts missing. Assist other departments when necessary to explain and address the rationale or fundamentals for such inputs.

Report in a timely manner the Geotechnical and Underground Works Design Manager. Discuss results, risk issues, technical topics or any other

Negotiate engineering fees, scope of works and other related contractual issues with the tunnel Consultants.

Other duties as applicable
Skills & Experience:
-
Master’s degree from an accredited university in geotechnical or civil engineering. Robust and proven experience in tunnel and underground works design and construction.

10 years design management and construction experience on complex civil infrastructure projects, including SEM and TBM tunnels, underground excavations, shafts, etc. More experience will be a plus

P.Eng in a Canadian province or eligibility for P.Eng registration with Professional Engineers Ontario.

Sound knowledge in the design of primary support, final lining, impermeabilization, construction methods and phasing, TBM-related topics, etc.

Capability to work in a fast-paced high-volume construction environment

Assertive, with strong analytical and communication skills

Proficiency in Engineering Software and Microsoft Office. Skills in underground works modeling (2D and 3D), construction impacts assessment and soil structure interaction software will be paramount.
