Training course at Ferrovial Agroman on the exchange format of BIM IFC files, organized/sponsored by buildingSMART Spanish Chapter.
On April 26 and 27, the training course on the BIM IFC Archives Exchange Project was held at the Ferrovial Agroman headquarters in Madrid. This training session was organized by the buildingSMART Spanish Chapter and imparted by Thomas Liebich of AEC3 Germany,
Thomas Liebich has more than 15 years of experience in the BIM sector and currently leads the IFC Format development team at buildingSMART International. He has also participated in projects such as the Code-checking System of Singapore and the undertaking at the National Museum of Oslo.
Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) is a data format developed by buildingSMART which allows for describing, exchanging and sharing information on construction projects between BIM software applications. It has been registered as an international standard since 2013 with the designation ISO 16739, adopted as a Euronorm, and is currently in force in Spain as the UNE-EN ISO 16739:2016 standard.
The training course hosted 20 participants previously selected from institutions such as the Ministry of Health, buildingSMART Spanish Chapter, consultant firms such as INECO and Ayesa, and software developers such as Solibri, Arup, and Bentley, among others. On behalf of Ferrovial Agroman, our co-workers Isabel Gutiérrez López and Inés Azpeitia González attended as representatives of the Innovation Department BIM Team.
The objectives of the course were as follows:
- To gain knowledge regarding the structure, formats (EXPRESS, XML, JSON, OWL) and types of exchanges that are covered by the IFC.
- To understand the scope of the different existing versions of the IFC format, as well as the versions that are being developed, both for buildings as well as infrastructures.
- To verify the functions of IFC in workflows: export and import.
- To become familiar with the relationship between IFC and other standards
