An expansive view of the los bronces mine in Chile

Ferrovial Services Chile has renewed its asset management and equipment maintenance contract with Anglo America in Los Bronces mine. The agreement provides a three-year extension. The companies have been working together since 2006.

Accordingly, Ferrovial Services will continue to manage the mine’s ancillary equipment. This includes maintaining 210 items of equipment, performing preventive inspections to avoid failures and ensuring that the assets operate properly so as to avoid accidents. This is the third renewal of the contract, which currently employs 55 people. With this development, the company expects to consolidate its position as a strategic partner of Anglo American at Los Bronces, and to continue offering quality services while giving priority to workplace safety.

Los Bronces is an open-cut copper and molybdenum mine operated by Anglo American, which is located 65 kilometers from Santiago de Chile and 3,500 meters above sea level. The ore is crushed and pumped via pipeline to Las Tórtolas, 56 kilometers away, where it is processed. In 2016, the mine produced 307,200 tons of fine copper, and 2,507 tons of molybdenum concentrate. Los Bronces employs 6,970 operators, both Anglo American and subcontractor staff.

Presence in the Chilean mining industry

The company is a strategic partner of Coldelco, the state-owned mining company and the world’s largest copper producer, providing services throughout the company’s production chain, with a presence at the Chiquicamata, Radomiro Tomic, Ministro Hales and Andina mines. In addition, Ferrovial Services Chile has a solid presence in the private mining industry, serving such clients as BHP Billington and Antofagasta Minerals.
