All these descriptions make them a key structure for transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past, their task was to reduce long distances. Today, in view of the challenges we face, bridges serve a higher purpose: a sustainable infrastructure which ensures greater traffic flow. They run through volcanoes, such as the Erques viaduct on Mount Teide; over lake lands, such as the Ostr\u00f3da bridge in Poland; or along the coastline on the Portuguese Norte Litoral highway.
