Tampoco es exactamente un r\u00edo, aunque ese apelativo s\u00ed lo conserva. <\/p>\n    \n\n\n<p>Conocido como Clarence desde 1839, uno de los r\u00edos m\u00e1s largos de Australia es en realidad un inmenso estuario. Uno que, poco antes de encontrarse con el mar tras recorrer 400 kil\u00f3metros, se cruza con dos puentes hermanos, uno s\u00edmbolo del pasado y otro que mira al futuro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante muchos a\u00f1os, la \u00fanica forma de cruzar el Clarence fue a bordo de una barcaza. Sus restos descansan todav\u00eda hoy en las orillas del r\u00edo. Cerca de all\u00ed se levant\u00f3 despu\u00e9s el primer puente de Harwood, inaugurado en 1966, un viaducto levadizo coronado por una celos\u00eda de acero que lo sosten\u00eda a pocos metros sobre el agua. Bajo el implacable sol australiano, a lo largo de 1,5 kil\u00f3metros, las columnas van poco a poco levantando el peso de las vigas de hormig\u00f3n hasta alzarlas 30 metros sobre el curso del Clarence. En total, 36 vanos, con una luz m\u00e1xima de 43,3 metros, para completar el puente m\u00e1s largo de la Pacific Highway en Nueva Gales del Sur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El nuevo puente de Harwood es ya el m\u00e1s ic\u00f3nico de los 100 viaductos que atraviesa la autopista australiana. Ha cambiado los mecanismos levadizos de su predecesor por la altura, permitiendo el tr\u00e1fico fluvial sin interrumpir el constante tr\u00e1fico rodado. Sobre el Clarence, se cruzan as\u00ed el pasado y el futuro de la autov\u00eda australiana. Poco m\u00e1s de 20 metros separan ambos puentes.
