Job Description:

Ferrovial Construction is internationally recognized for its capacity to design and build civil engineering and construction projects, mainly in large transportation infrastructure. Its track-record to date includes more than 304 miles of tunnels, 11,930 miles of roads (including 2,485 miles of highways), 2920 miles of railroad lines (including 434 miles of high-speed railroads) and 16,994 miles of road maintenance and repair.

The Estimator will be involved in proposals for some of the largest and most interesting infrastructure projects in North America.  This position will be working on bids for major design-build infrastructure projects located throughout the US and Canada including public-private partnerships.  Projects range in size from $100 million to over $3 billion in the transportation, water/wastewater, and energy sectors including public-private partnerships.  This position is based in the company’s North American headquarters in Austin, Texas with the potential for up to 10% travel.The Estimator will be involved in proposals for some of the largest and most interesting infrastructure projects in North America.  This position will be working on bids for major design-build infrastructure projects located throughout the US and Canada including public-private partnerships.  Projects range in size from $100 million to over $3 billion in the transportation, water/wastewater, and energy sectors including public-private partnerships.  This position is based in the company’s North American headquarters in Austin, Texas with the potential for up to 10% travel.

Duties:  

  • Review of all project documents

  • Summarize BOQs and manage quantity updates

  • Estimate closeout in excel

  • Production of preliminary and final cost estimates

  • Detailed estimating in HCSS Heavybid, including assembling of crews and determination of production rates based on experience.

  • Construction market research in various project locations to determine labor rates, equipment rates, local construction methods, and available subcontractors and suppliers

  • Quantity take-off and review of quantities for completeness and accuracy

  • Solicitation of subcontractor and supplier quotes

  • Review designs for constructability input and identification of issues affecting cost of construction

  • Analysis of various design alternatives and construction methods to determine most cost effective solutions

  • Preparation of project summaries

  • Participation in project site visits

  • Participation in project schedule evaluation and preparation

  • Coordination with clients, joint venture partners, consultants and internal departments

  • Participation in meetings with project stakeholders and team members

  • Preparation of meeting minutes and agendas

  • Participation in production of draft content for written proposals

  • Participation in evaluation of project risks and mitigation strategies

  • Assuring compliance with price proposal requirements

  • Participation in post-proposal clarifications, contract negotiations and analysis of bid results

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency

  • 5+ years of total construction experience

  • 3+ years of detailed estimating experience

  • Project engineering/project management field experience

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to quickly grasp complex business concepts and contract issues

  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people in a large team environment

  • HCSS HeavyBid experience

Beneficial qualifications:

  • Design-build experience

  • Some Excel VBA experience

  • Power BI

  • Joint venture experience

  • Large project experience (over $100m)

  • CPM scheduling experience/training

  • Spanish language
