Job Description:

Summary:   The Maintenance Manager provides resources to operate a safe and efficient highway system, which includes the planning, scheduling, and execution of capital and routine maintenance activities. The Maintenance Manager is accountable for upholding the quality and standards set by the organization and reporting to the COO.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the quality of work performed by the maintenance and incident response staff and propose corrections and improvements when appropriate
  • Propose investment in equipment, personnel and training for the department and follow through with the purchase and implementation
  • Manage the maintenance budget
  • Produce accurate, relevant and timely monthly and quarterly reports on maintenance operations following company procedures
  • Responsible for internal communication to maintenance team and encouraging innovation and efficiency improvements
  • Implement policies and standards developed by COO, Quality Manager or responsible local entities and ensure and track compliance with those policies and standards
  • Ensure that all maintenance and incident response staff are properly trained in safety, environmental compliance, recognition of category defects, and procedures for emergency incident response
  • Manage maintenance activity, project assets, and inventory tracking through computer software
  • Responsible for developing the company Safety Program, emergency procedures, and all

required updates

  • Assessing safety and health program policy issues, reviewing and analyzing the

effectiveness of the safety and health program

  • Ensuring that safety and health issues are routinely discussed by all levels of

management at staff meetings, or other appropriate meetings

  • Ensuring that staff has received all required health and safety training and
  • Preparing all reports required by the CDA, the company, or by law
  • Conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance with the Safety
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

Education, Experience & Certification:

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in roadway maintenance management
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, some college or an associate’s degree is preferred
  • Specific knowledge of best-practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in roadway maintenance (inclusive of specification writing experience for equipment)
  • Prior budgeting experience required
  • Familiarity with traffic control and requirements set forth in the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devises
  • Must possess a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsement of air brakes, or a valid class “B” CDL permit with the above endorsement, or the ability to obtain a CDL within 30 days of employment

Professional Qualities:

  • Effectively oversee, manage and delegate a team of 6 to 10 maintenance employees
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) and other PC-based software
  • Effectively manage tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to interact with colleagues in a team structure
  • Must be able to multitask and problem solve within a fast-paced environment

  • The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high at times given that the employee will be working around heavy machinery
  • Some roadway travel required
  • The employee must be able to individually lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
