The role

Summary of role and areas of responsibility

To help Fusion to aspire to be a values and behavioural lead joint venture organisation. Developing, managing and delivering internal, supply chain, project communications and associated plans and strategies.

Create a cultural framework, that sets out the behaviours we expect of our people, attracting senior and functional support. Providing a blueprint that helps to drive all future internal and engagement activity. Inclusion of leadership and senior engagement strategies and plans. Encouraging interventions as and when required, driving positive change and helping to forge integrated and engaged teams.

To lead the design and delivery of Fusion’s internal communications and engagement plan. Which is to be underpinned by the joint venture’s organisational structure,delivery and leadership. To create alignment across strategic activities within Fusion to ensure a consistent flow of information between project functions and disciplines; supply chain, HSQE, community engagement etc.

As a line managerial role, this position also assumes accountability and responsibility for the communications function within the joint venture, as well as ongoing support for internal teams.
This is to be achieved by:
Forging key relationships with HS2’s collaboration team, appointed collaboration partners and collaboration leads, and communication peers across the Tier 1 network
Building communication and engagement strategies that support a collaborative culture and successful internal/external relationships

Understanding, interpreting the future requirements of Fusion’s joint venture journey, so appropriate activity and action can be taken early, including advice and recommendations to Fusion’s directors/senior managers

Making recommendations and providing constructive solutions for problematic areas within Fusion’s culture and ways of working

Using measures and feedback to understand the current viewpoints and perceptions on what it feels like to work in the Fusion joint venture.

Act as the senior subject matter expert for collaboration and communication strategies and activities, delivering professional expertise.

Engaging heavily with internal specialists such as, H&S, Quality, Environment, HR, EDI, Community Engagement and Office Management to ensure ‘People’ are a core focus in all communications, strategies and leadership commitments and agendas.

Key accountabilities

Main activities and tasks

Produce Fusion’s annual Employee Communications Plan, including contributions and requirements from Fusion’s functional, delivery, programme and pre-contract teams.

Develop agreed key messaging and ensure consistent delivery across all channels.

Monitor, evaluate and report on the success of the communications plan.

Provide insight and intelligence through media monitoring.

Design and deliver conferences, away days and workshops for all Fusion and HS2 persons across EWC Area Central as required.

Continue to monitor and improve Fusion’s project induction, making changes and recommendations as required to ensure it remains relevant and a vibrant engagement tool.

Produce a rolling schedule for quarterly roadshows, supporting the Project Director to deliver their project vision, through clear and compelling narrative and messaging

Manage and ensure creative content is provided to Parent Companies, to help support shareholder conversations about the project and awareness throughout the respective organisations

Support the internal needs and requests of the three parent companies, i.e. company cascades, surveys etc.

Skills & experience

Skills, behavioural competencies and technical knowledge:

Clear understanding of employee engagement techniques and a critical eye for detail

Creative decision-making and ability to produce, exciting and engaging communications

Competent user of ADOBE CC In Design, with good eye for creating compelling and well-designed visuals

Ability to produce papers, business cases and briefings for senior team members

Ability to develop narrative, messages and write robust communication/engagement plans

Proven ability to present and manage consistent and coherent messages and information

Advisory and influential skills (communication/engagement advice to senior members within Fusion)

Ability to evaluate outcomes with continuous learning and improvement

Knowledge of internal and external communications, including media and PR and the ability to produce, internal/external messaging and content

Results orientated, demonstrate energy and commitment, focusing efforts on achieving quality results and setting high standards

Demonstrate resilience and the ability to help implement organisational change, identifying opportunities for leadership communication, to help create an environment that helps people to transition into change

Desirable, proven experience of working in the construction, engineering and transport infrastructure industry.
