Recently opened by Welsh Government Economy and Transport Minister Ken Skates, the new Cardiff office will accommodate up to 130 Amey Consulting engineering and management staff primarily supporting the £1.9 billion, 25 year, Wales & Borders rail network and South Wales Metro projects. For the Consulting Highways business this means ready access to a range of civil engineering and transportation projects to support the delivery of significant change to public transport in Wales, together with a 85 no, £194m, station infrastructure improvement programme. The first six stations, Swansea, Bridgend, Dovey Junction, Machynlleth, Severn Tunnel Junction and Wrexham General, have commenced preliminary design. The services we are providing include modelling, master planning, engineering design and site supervision for varied works that include additional car park facilities, improved access and junctions, plus bike and pedestrian access.
Amey Consulting’s extensive national experience in supporting Local Authority clients, either through single project commissions, framework arrangements or more extensive professional services delivery contracts, has allowed us to capitalise on the unique opportunity presented by W&B, to develop strong local and regional relationships. Projects have already been secured from Monmouthshire County Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council, with plenty of further prospects to be delivered.
Amey Consulting continue to work with Transport for Wales, and again this strong relationship will present further opportunity for the sustainable growth of the office. TfW has already commissioned Amey Consulting to provide engineering design services for the first of several projects in the pipeline; the Gelynis Farm Accommodation Works. Works include a new access road-over-rail bridge with approach embankments.
Under the W&B core valley lines rail transformation, a new rail depot is proposed at Taff’s Well. Amey Consulting has been commissioned to design two new road-over-rail bridges, plus new junctions, access and drainage solutions.
The Cardiff office deliver design solutions for highways, structures, street lighting, drainage, traffic signal and sign installations, environmental and geotechnical services and delivery of capital investment projects. In addition, Amey Consulting has also acted as NEC Project Manager on a number of these key schemes and supervised these on site during construction; hence providing opportunities for junior members of staff to gain valuable site experience in preparation of gaining CEng status.
Develop and shape the contract business plan in line with regional strategy working closely with the BD and contract team.
Deliver / improve upon agreed margins and cash flows.
Financial / Operations:
Manage a contract P&L and balance sheet with responsibility for implementing the divisional business plan within the contract.

Lead, review and challenge contract budgets and forecasts to ensure a consistent, challenging but deliverable approach is adopted
Work with BDs, regional and contract teams to develop, manage & deliver annual business objectives, plans and budgets
Manage overall contract performance, with regular site visits and performance review against targets.
Provide the necessary data and interpret management information in order to monitor performance of the account.
Contribute to the bidding process in person or via support from contracts.
Ensure and improve the delivery of service excellence across the accounts through maximising efficiency and effectiveness, actively sharing best practice across contracts and seeking opportunities for profit improvement.
Ensure the account is a robust reference sites for future bids.
Manage the supply chain to deliver service excellence and account profitability.
Be accountable for a health and safety culture which ensures safe processes, procedures and behaviours as well as continuous improvement through best practice activities.
Ensure efficient management of the contract’s resources; employees, fleet, suppliers and subcontractors.
Ensure that business imperatives are clearly communicated and understood throughout the contract and to others, as appropriate.
Customer / Market:
Responsible for specific client relationship(s), with regular review of contract performance and active management of issues.
Support and implement a culture of customer centricity.
Play a key role in business development across contracts and within the division.
People / Organisation:
Lead a team to deliver the contract agenda.

Skills & experience
