Incident Response Crew (IRC) Technician

Position Summary

Responsible for meeting all traffic or roadway related incident response arrival times, traffic restoration, and supplementary maintenance tasks specified in the company’s contract and as directed by the supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Rapidly respond to traffic related incidents as required when dispatched by the Tunnel Operator.
  • Create safe Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) zones including the set up and removal of traffic control devices such as cones, message and arrow boards, and temporary signs.
  • Assist law enforcement officers on managing traffic or roadway related incidents.
  • Clean incident response vehicles on a weekly basis.
  • Maintain clean appearance of highways and medians including removal and disposal of litter and debris.
  • Maintain and repair roadway and other surfaces by filling potholes, replacing striping, installing and replacing reflectors, working with concrete and asphalt.
  • Basic maintenance and repair of roadway assets and equipment rooms including portals, railings, expansion joints, doors, and painting as required.
  • Maintain appearance and functionality of roadway signs, guardrail, fencing, and roadway lighting through repair or replacement using hand or power tools when necessary.
  • Repair and preserve functionality of slopes, berms, culverts, drains, etc., using shovels and other hand or power tools and equipment when needed.
  • Upkeep of roadway catch basins, sumps and pumps, fire hydrants, and other mechanical assets using shovels and hand or power tools and equipment when necessary.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites while operating large truck or specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
  • Must be available to work overtime during emergency response rotations and other, including after hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Carry out all duties in line with Company policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legaland procedural requirements.

  • Electrical and Welding Certification. (Preferred)
  • Towing and driving history with three (3) years of CDL Class A experience in manual transmission. (Preferred)
  • Must be able to obtain Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Must be able to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first month of hire.

Position Summary

Responsible for removal of litter & debris, and the maintenance, servicing and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets. This individual will be responsible for maintaining contracted assets (such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, litter removal, drainage, etc.) per standards in the contract and as directed by supervisor.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) control by setup and removal of traffic control devices including cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.
  • Transports crew and equipment to work sites operating vehicle large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.
  • Positively contribute to a diverse, inclusive and fair work environment, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.

  • Removal of all road debris and litter which has accumulated or has been dumped onto roadway surface and shoulder or washes onto water’s edge.

  • Removal of shopping carts and other foreign objects off client property,
  • Removal of debris and litter around stockpile locations,
  • Removal of accumulated or foreign stockpiles dumped on client system,
  • Removal of dead animals in and around the toll roads and facilities (Do not remove dead animals larger than 150 pounds or hazardous material, instead notify client for removal),
  • Removal of illegal signs or structures that were not erected or authorized by client.
  • Removal of hazard/incident roadway debris,
  • Removal of debris and litter due to high tide and winds at contract locations.
  • Removal of roadway debris (including sand/dirt) that has collected in CCAs and ramp gore areas.
  • Keep roadways free of debris
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Avoids legal challenges by complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements.

Job Description:

Position Summary 

Responsible for maintenance, servicing and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets.  This individual will be responsible for maintaining contracted assets (such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, litter removal etc.) per standards in the contract and as directed by supervisor. 

 

*Please note – in order to support our road maintenance services, this role may be assigned to operations of equipment for winter (if applicable) or summer operations as required. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

·       Creates safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) control by setup and removal of traffic control devices including cones, message/arrow boards, temporary signage, etc.  

·       Must be comfortable working from heights in bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders and aerial platforms lifts.  

·       Transports crew and equipment to work sites operating large trucks and specialized motor vehicles and trailers.  

·       Positively contribute to a diverse, inclusive and fair work environment, free from discrimination, bullying and harassment. 

·       Carry out all duties in line with Company policies and procedures as amended from time to time. 

·       Sign Crew shall be responsible for maintaining large and small signs on and off the client system  

·       Installing small signs and sign mounts 

·       Installing large signs (Client will provide crane and operator for any sign too large to safely install with two (2) people) 

·       Installation of all signs and sign mounts shall be completed in accordance with TXDOT and client standards. 

·       Conducting routine field inspections to ensure condition of existing signs, mounts, and sign connections 

·       Maintain a database report for client that includes installation date, age, reflectivity, and types of signs 

·       Maintaining an inventory of available signs at client’s storage locations 

·       Coordinating with client to order necessary signs 

·       Performing a nighttime sign inspection to determine retro reflectivity once per year. 

·       Maintains the appearance and functionality of signs through repair and/or replacement using hand or power tools.  

·       All other duties as assigned.  

·       Avoids legal challenges by complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements.

·       Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals to comply with contractual requirements 

·       Ability to work flexibly and willingness to work extensively to meet business needs  

·       High level of attention to detail.  

·       Takes ownership of responsibilities  

·       Basic knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in concrete, asphalt repair, construction and maintenance. 

·       Skill in the use and care of small hand power tools associated with the work. 

·       Ability to interface with the public in a professional manner.  

·       24/7 Operations- Availably for holidays, nights, weekends, overtime, and 3rd shift are required.  

·       On call duties as assigned.  

·       Must be willing and able to respond within contractual guidelines and timeframes. 

·       Basic knowledge of technology (Smartphones) (Preferred) 

Education and Experience  

·       HS Diploma or GED (Required)  

·       One (1) year work experience in infrastructure, maintenance, and repair. (Preferred)  

·       A valid driver license and a good driving record are required to drive a company vehicle.   

·       Ability to pass and obtain Advanced MOT Certification (Required)

Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to traffic and outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fume or airborne particles. Frequent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, frequent exposure to insects and infrequent exposure to reptiles/rodents. The noise level in the work environment usually moderate but on occasion can be more than moderate. 

 

Physical Demands 

The employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk on a wide range of surfaces; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric powered tools and equipment. Vision abilities include both close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to pass fit test for respirator as required. Ability to work at heights. Ability to work in confined spaces.

Responsible for efficient arrival to and recovery from incidents within the tunnel and roadway project while providing professional and courteous assistance to motorists.

Education and Experience

HS Diploma or GED

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (Required)

3-5 years’ work experience with tow truck operations, preferably Freeway Service Patrol

Knowledge and experience with a flatbed tow truck in responding to the scene of an incident within the roadway.

CDL, DOT certifications, Freeway Service Patrol Certification, desired

Must possess or be able to complete CHP approved tow truck training course and continuing education

Possess basic mechanical aptitude, courteous and professional to customers, and friendly attitude

Documentation of actions and observations during response to and recovery from an incident

Ability to be trained as a Tunnel Operator

Current certificate of completion of a California Tow Truck Association (CTTA) Light Duty Level I and/or II is highly desirable.
