The Project Engineer serves as the senior technical consultant on site, responsible for acquiring and analyzing equipment data sets and determining any action that is dictated by the information. What You Will Do: 

  • Provides skilled technical and management advice and assistance to project team members 

  • Demonstrates familiarity with maintenance practices and asset maintenance systems 

  • Proactively identifies project issues and appropriately managing them to the satisfaction of client and Webber business goals; and escalating to the project management as appropriate 

  • Makes calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as lighting calculations, power distribution calculations and equipment sizing. 

  • Prepares and/or reviews design criteria, quantities, and estimates, drawings, and specifications  

  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents 

  • Consistently, engages in site visits and site meetings, both scheduled and impromptu 

  • Demonstrates time management and planning skills; demonstrated report writing skills; basic presentation skills. 

  • Familiarity with and demonstrates adherence to the Health and Safety practices of the Infrastructure industry and Webber

Who You Are: A Profile of Success 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably Electrical engineering, but relevant work experience may be substituted 

  • Current work experience of 3-5 years in electrical/telecom infrastructure industry 

  • Specific knowledge of PLCs with emphasis on Allen Bradley and Schneider/Modicon PLCs 

  • Functional level user of MS Project 

  • Experience with maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and upgrading lighting, fan and gas monitoring controls  

  • Experience with maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and upgrading fiber optic cabling, networking, security cameras  

  • Working knowledge of electric motors, belt and chain drives, plus mechanical equipment of medium complexity

About us:

Alamo NEX Construction, LLC is a part of the Ferrovial Group in Texas. In 2021, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) selected Alamo NEX Construction, LLC, a joint venture between Ferrovial Construction Texas, LLC and DBW, LLC (both Ferrovial Group subsidiaries), to complete the Interstate 35 (I-35) NEX Central Project. This project is a $1.5 billion Texas Design-Build (DB) project through the cities of San Antonio, Live Oak, Selma, and Schertz that will consist of non-tolled improvements along I-35, I-140, and Loop 1604. The proposed improvements will include the addition of elevated managed lanes to I-35, addition of 4 connector bridges at the I-35/I-410 North interchange, addition of 4 connector bridges at the I-35/Loop 1604 interchange, and widening of Loop 1604 in Bexar and Guadalupe Counties.

Position Summary:

The Project Engineer is responsible to take ownership of the structures segment P&L and ensure that of heavy civil construction project segments from initial budget through project closeout. Among many important activities, it is most important that projects are executed safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining positive communication with the Owner's representative. The position of a Project Engineer is consistently thinking about ways to accelerate job, decrease costs, increase markups, save indirect costs, and take advantage of situations to increase profits for multiple projects.

Job Duties

· Responsible for all technical work pertaining to solving geotechnical design and construction problems (including review of design calculations and reassessment of as-built conditions).

· Provide optimum technical recommendations to geotechnical field challenges encountered during the construction, including but not limited to support of temporary excavations, foundations, soil improvement, temporary and permanent pavement design, temporary and permanent retaining walls, etc.

· Analyze and adjust construction phasing (MOT) to improve constructability with a special emphasis in optimizing number of phases, improving safety for both the public and workers reducing temporary retaining walls and support of excavations.

· Propose and analyze project optimizations to help keeping the project within budget and schedule.

· Discuss with the Client and with the Designer’s specialists on specialized items. Lead the collaborative efforts with all the parties to solve geotechnical issues, related design and/or construction issues (non-conformance reports).

· Ensure all geotechnical designs are in accordance with the Ferrovial Group’s standards and Contract requirements.

· Provide technical input to the Risk matrix, as well as to other documents to be internally developed by Ferrovial

· Review the work of all geotechnical engineers and outside consultants engaged in the project development during design and construction phases.

· Ensure that geotechnical inputs to the BOQ are precise, back-up is clearly explained, and there are no relevant concepts missing. Assist other departments when necessary to explain and address the rationale or fundamentals for such inputs.

· Negotiate engineering fees, scope of works and other related contractual issues with the Consultants.

· Other duties as applicable and required by the Construction Technical Office/Design Manager.

Site Engineer 

Report To: Section Engineer, Project Manager 

Location: Heathrow Airport 

 

Ferrovial Construction has been working at Heathrow Airport for over 12 years delivering some of the most complex infrastructure projects to high quality, safety and environmental standards. We have focused on design and build projects with a mix of contractual arrangements. This has enabled us to refine our management procedures in response to Heathrow’s Employers Requirements and Ferrovial Construction own internal management systems. 

Since joining Heathrow’s framework in 2008, Ferrovial Construction has delivered a variety of airside and landside projects across the whole airport. For example, we have delivered new taxiways and rehabilitated existing taxiways and the southern runway. We have also redeveloped sterile and grass areas and replaced critical assets, such as fire main, fuel main and HV ducts. We are currently working alongside Heathrow to rehabilitate assets with expired design life’s and plan for a future runway resurfacing project. We are constantly designing and planning our works around critical assets and engaging with different key stakeholders in order to deliver Heathrow value for money. 

Role Overview and Objectives 

Responsibilities: 

Safety, Health, Environment & Sustainability 

  • Production of Method Statements Task Briefing and Risk Assessments to be approved by supervising engineers 

  • Contribution to production of all Permits to works, including briefing to the workforce 

  • Carries out Safety Inspections 

  • Hazard Identification and contribution to development of Safe System of Work 

  • Know the company procedures and statutory regulations relating to environmental and waste management issuesCarry out necessary monitoring under the guidance of others. 

Dimensional/Spatial Control 

  • Provides dimensional control for a section of the works 

  • Undertakes as built surveys for a section of the works and presents results in format that can be included in project records if required 

  • Establishes and maintains secondary control on the project from primary control 

  • Checks dimension design data early, raising technical queries to eliminate delays from insufficient information 

  • Ensures that appropriate as built surveys are undertaken, correctly recorded and communicated 

  • Manages the survey equipment ensuring it is suitable for the works and in calibration so that there are no dimensional control errors due to survey equipment 

Workmanship, Quality, Inspection & Testing 

  • Raises Non-Conformance Report (NCR) for all non-conformances and reports potential non-conformances 

  • Produces Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) that correctly interpret the specified quality requirements 

  • Implements the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and the Request for Witness and Approval (RWA) procedures  

  • Collates and files quality records for potential inclusion in quality assurance documentation 

  • Maintaining accurate records Daily Diary, photographs, records of site discussions 

  • Carries out quality control checks using internal check sheets where appropriate 

  • Applies the company and external technical information to help achieve the specified quality requirements 

  • Adopts and promotes a culture of “right first time” 

  • Works to Weekly Programme and marks up progress achieved weekly 

  • Production of accurate daily diary of resources, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and outputs 

Information, Change Control & Records 

  • Files and maintains the engineer’s drawings and specifications so that the current information is always presented to them 

  • Marks up drawings & specifications with any changes referencing the documentation that verifies the change 

  • Interprets and abstracts construction information from the drawings and specification and provides this to the supervisors and operatives in a clear and understandable way using sketches 

Permanent Works Materials, Products, Plant & Systems 

  • Measures materials usage and provides quantity information for preparation of material call off / requisitions 

  • Carries out on site testing of materials, products, plant and systems as required by their role 

  • Setting out  

  • The provision of sketches detailing the setting out information installed 

Construction Methods, Practices and Innovation 

  • Reads and understands method statements and makes sure that site operations follow these methods accurately reporting any variances to supervisors and his supervising engineer 

  • Produces sketches and drawings to clarify methods and construction sequences 

Temporary Works/Systems & Cranes 

  • Understand and have a good command of temporary works and permits to load 

  • Takes on the role of temporary works inspector for standard temporary works they are involved with 

  • Makes sure that temporary works on their section are identified and the temporary works  

  • procedure is applied to them 

Engineering Knowledge – Capture, Sharing & Using 

  • Interrogate design information and determine if there are sufficient details to construct the worksRaise relevant documentation (e.g. TIEs, TQs, CVIs, etc.) with assistance from supervising engineers / managers, to resolve discrepancies and anomalies detected. 

  • Effective communication of technical information to the workforce and liaison with functions/support services within the project team in a timely & accurate manner. 

  • Provide feedback to supervising engineers / managers on the effectiveness of materials, specialist contractors, plant and designers being used on site. 

  • Preparation of basic calculations/drawings/sketches 

Experience & Knowledge 

The candidate will ideally possess the following experience and knowledge: 

  • Proven experience of working with concrete structures and civil engineering/building construction. 

  • Prior experience in Civil Engineering 

  • Prior experience in Architectural and Landscaping packages

Section Engineer

Location: Heathrow Airport

The Role:

Section Engineer will be responsible for the management of the construction site in order to achieve required project delivery to the customers’ objectives, while maintaining standards of health and safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control.

They will deliver multiple on-going projects, to the specified quality, the required programme and to the maximum commercial performance.

The post-holder will work closely with the Commercial Department, engineers and surveyors to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner whilst customer requirements and expectations are always maintained or exceeded.
