Job Description:
- Functionally responsible for leading the geotechnical, geology and I&M technical teams across the programme
- Provide specialist technical expertise to support each project within the programme, leading technical resolution to significant geotechnical challenges with a “best-for-project” mentality, accounting for contract requirements, cost, schedule, risk, etc
- Drive progressive technical assurance of construction-stage technical closeout of items such as the ground risk registers, geotechnical feedback reports and monitoring reports, ensuring technical quality is in accordance with client expectations
- Ensure timely delivery of construction-stage technical documentation from design consultants to enable handover in accordance with schedule needs and key dates
- Ownership of programme-wide standard details and contract requirements (technical) within the area of responsibility
- In collaboration with the projects’ technical leads, ensure the timely delivery of remaining geotechnical designs
- Lead the team in effectively managing relevant commercial and contractual communications (TQs, EWs, EIs, CEs, etc.) associated with area of responsibility with suppliers and client
- Relationship owner and focal point for the client’s geotechnical subject matter experts to enable a productive and collaborative working relationship within the discipline
- Lead by example and promote good practice relating to geotechnical, geology and I&M, sharing learning across the programme

Key Skills and qualifications
- Degree qualified and experienced in technical earthworks design and construction support roles
- Chartered (e.g. CEng MICE) professional qualification desired
- Excellent knowledge of relevant earthworks design standards and its applicability for the design
- Ability to lead and manage a team with competing priorities with a focus on what is ‘best for project’
- Management of commercial/contractual aspects of projects with suppliers and client
- Strong stakeholder management skills with experience of influencing and negotiating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and the ability to extract key points and communicate this to others
Key relationships include: Project Technical Leads, Earthworks Delivery Teams, Design Consultants and Client Subject Matter Experts.

Rail Systems Design Integration Lead Role
Project Overview
The Ferrovial BAM Joint Venture has a successful history of delivering critical infrastructure for the UK on time and to budget together in joint venture partnership. They first worked together in 2010 as BFK, delivering three Crossrail contracts, including the longest stretch of tunnelling works between Royal Oak and Farringdon and Farringdon Station, the first central station to be completed on the Elizabeth Line. The team is also delivering the Silvertown Tunnel project together in East London and has been delivering excellence at each stage of HS2, such as Fusion JV for the Enabling Works packages, EKFB for the central Main Works Contract and now delivering the track infrastructure across the entire HS2 route.
We are now recruiting for a Rail Systems Design Integration Lead to join the HS2 Track infrastructure project at the initial design phase which will run concurrently with the completion of main works contracts, which are now at their peak. The team operate under a collaborative Rail Systems Alliance structure, designed to manage interfaces and resolve any program conflicts. The members will work together on design, access, resources, and logistics to achieve shared goals for cost and schedule.

Management Responsibility: RAM Manager, System Safety Lead, Interoperability Lead, Electrical Engineering (EMC and E&B), functional management of integration lead for Standard track, Resilient track and Calvert IMD
Key responsibilities
To lead the management and coordination of all design interfaces between the Contractor’s systems scope and other HS2 contractors (Rail Systems, Civils, Stations) as well as with the Client, ensuring technical consistency, contractual compliance and integrated assurance.
- Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the relevant parts of the Interface Management Plan and for the processes and/or procedures for railway systems designs integration.
- Accountability for ensuring and overseeing the development of the management plans in respect of RAM, System Safety, Interoperability, Security management, and the required processes and procedures.
- Manage the system integration processes from design to construction. Manage System level Functional and Architecture Specifications and interface control documents.
- Be responsible for the consistency of the sub-systems deliverables across all projects and contribute towards the standardisation of specifications for sub-systems.
- Implement efficient processes to manage system safety (including CDM, CSM-RA and interoperability), Verification and Validation (V&V) and system assurance.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining the Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for the railway systems design interfaces, and for coordinating and overseeing the development and maintenance of ICDs for other design interfaces.
- Coordinate with other contractors (Railways Systems, Main Works), Client, Designers and internal teams to identify, document and ensure resolution of design interfaces and systems integration.
- Act as the primary point of contact for technical coordination across interfaces.
Management of subordinate roles
- Direct and oversee the work of the RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability), System Safety, Interoperability and Security Lead (s) to ensure coherent and coordinated system safety management, interoperability, interface management, requirements compliance and assurance evidence.
- Support and/or conduct design reviews, coordination meetings, HAZID/HAZOP workshops and formal assurance reviews and submissions (e.g. to HS2 and AsBO).
- Manage resolution of interface comments across stakeholders.
Programme and Information coordination
- Ensure interface and systems integration milestones are tracked and managed within the design delivery and assurance schedule.
- Coordinate the supply chain to support the achievement of an efficient and compliant design, and for evidencing progressive technical assurance during design, construction and handover.
- Close liaison with the design supply chain to ensure the delivery of these interfaces and deliverables associated with the managed disciplines (RAM, System Safety, Interoperability, Electrical Engineering (EMC and E&B and Security)) as per the programme and budgetary constraints, and in accordance with the client’s requirement.
- Coordination with the broader interface management team, assurance team, design delivery team (alignment and effective delivery on time and within budgetary constraints) construction and logistic teams.
- Attend weekly meetings with the broader design, systems safety and construction teams and client in Birmingham / London. Chairing regular railways systems / civils systems integration meetings.
- Support the client with identifying change, risk and opportunities and constantly striving for efficiencies and cost savings.
- Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of design and systems interface-related issues. Provide technical input and support to relevant commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc)
Key Skills and qualifications
- Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- Chartered IMEC, PWA Institute or CEng ICE desirable
- Experience in major multi-disciplinary rail projects. Experience in high-speed railway projects, design and build projects, and UK projects will be valuable.
- Demonstrated experience managing design integration, technical interfaces and inter-contractor coordination.
- Proficient in design coordination, design interface management and assurance documentation in railway projects.
- Excellent knowledge of railway systems, operating requirements, available equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of system safety, interoperability and RAM disciplines, processes and legal frameworks and related regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).
- Strong communication, leadership and management skills, with a positive and collaborative approach.
- Enthusiastic team player, able to listen, understand, engage and motivate, and with confidence to make decisions when required.
- Focus on efficiency and driving delivery. Practical experience of harmonising design and quality requirements with buildability.

Reporting to the Design Manager, the Technical Lead Engineer will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the BoQ of the project and the design support during construction including the management and coordination of the Survey and Monitoring Assistant
As Technical Lead Engineer, will be responsible for ensuring the correct implementation of the design, particularly focusing on the Civil works for the Shafts, Head houses, Accesses, Utilities diversions and connections to the existing networks, managing the design changes (FCR) and RFIs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Analysis, review and preparation of design documentation from detailed design till hand over
• Management of the Site Design Team during the construction phase
• Management of the Survey Team during design and construction phases.
• Management, review and approval of all design changes and responses to RFIs, FCRs and NCRs, including changes to the design coming from the supply chain – in coordination with the BIM Manager
• Coordination and supervision of the production of all as-built drawings and other Documentation required for the handover of the works
• Technical preliminary assessment of the change proposals before are instructed to the designer
• Proposal of design optimizations during construction
• Production and review of the BoQ for the project, in coordination with the Project Cost Control Team
• To assist the project team in their production of ‘as-built’ documentation and the Health & Safety File.
REQUIREMENTS
• Degree qualified in civil engineering or similar discipline.
• Experience in a similar role in of comparable projects, projects including Shafts and underground works
• Understanding of Project Management and Procedures.
• Structural design capabilities, including experience with FE modelling.
• Specific computer skills. CAD/BIM user experience
• Capability to manage a design and produce design as well, not only technical but design assurance as well (specs, MAFs, ITPs, etc)
• Excellent communications skills at all level.
• Problem solving skills.

Job Description:
Position Summary
The HV Cable Engineer will lead the design delivery for Cable System Projects up to 400kV, for all stages of the project: FEED, Tendering, Detailed design to project handover. This role requires an understanding of electrical engineering principles, industry and relevant codes & standards, and regulatory requirements, cable technology and safety regulations, and to ensure the reliable and safe operation of HV cable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and/or reviewing HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
- Provide technical support to the design team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design, such as civil, structural, supply chain, etc.
- Perform and review technical calculations including cable size, spaceproofing, rating calculations, bonding schemes, TMF and EMF calculations, Sheath induced voltage calculations and other.
- Ensuring all project designs are compliant with CDM regulations, relevant legislation and company procedures
- Assist with temporary works design schemes.
- Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works.
- Ensuring correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects, attend, and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
- Identify potential risks, recommend corrective actions and mitigation measures.
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
- Previous experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
- Previous experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
- Experience in HV cable design, installation, or maintenance.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in Cable Tunnel projects.
- Familiar with National Grid policies, procedures and technical standards.
- Familiarity with relevant cutting-edge engineering software.
