Our Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is a key aspect in our activities and the reason why we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our actions, prioritizing the security of persons, contributing to a sustainable development of society, and using innovation as a fundamental instrument for productivity and competitiveness.

Our projects have been recognized for their environmental innovations (Green Apple awards at Northern Line extension and our Crossrail projects), excellence in construction (Crossrail Farringdon Station – Ground Engineering Award 2016 for Technical Excellence) and masterful digital innovation and BIM implementation (M8/M74/M75 – Irish BIM Innovation Awards).

Committed to Health & Safety

The health, safety and well-being of our staff, workforce and local communities is our main concern as a business. We work tirelessly to ensure that every single one of us gets home safely every day and is able to live and work in a healthy environment.

Stay safe for life

Our Behavioural Safety Programme (LIFE) lies at the heart of the business. It is a holistic approach to implementing Health, Safety & Well-being practices throughout our business – not only at work, but also at home. It empowers employees and promotes leadership at all levels of our organisation.

Mental Health and Well-being

We understand that a happy and healthy workforce is in everyone’s interests. To ensure we all have access to any services we need to maintain a healthy mental outlook, we have implemented a number of measures to give employees the resources and support they need across our business.

  • Employee Assistance Programme: We have teamed up with Axa to provide our employees with 24/7 independent support and advice for all manner of life management issues, from the most practical to clinically qualified counselling and therapeutic help for times of need.
  • Mental Health First Aid Programme: As part of our Mental Health First Aid programme, every 6 months, we train members of our workforce to be able to act as mental health first aiders and ensure that we are all aware and looking out for each other. Our first aiders ensure that we do away with the stigma around mental health and are skilled at spotting and reaching out to those in need, supporting those members of our team who may be experiencing some difficulties.
  • Well-being Day: Our biannual well-being day brings together our employees’ family and friends in a day of exercise, sports competitions and healthy barbecue food.
  • National Health & Well-being Week: We are founding members of the national campaign which focuses on improving health and well-being in the workplace and raising awareness around related issues. Every October, we deliver a week’s worth of activities, workshops and support to all our employees at all worksites on this theme.

Committed to Community Investment

As active members of the construction and engineering industry, we embrace our responsibility to be active in the resolution of the most pressing social issues in the environments in which we operate. We work hard to ensure we are able to leave behind a worthwhile and meaningful legacy by recruiting local people and collaborate with organisations targeting those societal groups most in need of support everywhere we go.

In line with our focus on access to employment, employability, school engagement and community engagement activities, we deliver on a number of commitments throughout the year including a work experience programme across our projects for local school children or people looking to get back into the work place, a STEM Ambassador network across the business, an employer supported volunteering programme and robust contribution to important causes for our industry and our communities such as International Women in Engineering Day and working together with Thames21, Heathrow Special Needs Farm and a network of schools, colleges and prisons.

Equality Diversity & Inclusion

The UK needs to significantly increase the number of people with engineering skills. We recognise this as a global challenge to businesses operating in the UK and understand our responsibility in addressing the looming skills gap.

The Inclusive Culture Pledge: Our Commitment to Building an Inclusive Culture

By signing up to EW Group’s Pledge, we will benefit from a year of dedicated support on five key aspects of diversity development: Leadership, People, Brand, Data and Future. In doing so, we are making a commitment, internally and outwardly, to the lasting importance of diversity and inclusion to our company culture.

Gender Pay Gap Report

The Gender Pay Gap reporting regulations came into full effect for the first time in the UK in 2018. All employers with over 250 staff – in the private, public or non-profit sectors – must comply with the UK Government’s gender pay gap reporting requirements on an annual basis.
