The tolled express lanes run adjacent to the general-purpose lanes on I-77 between uptown Charlotte and Mooresville. Job Description:
Under general supervision, assists in supervising, implementing, monitoring, and coordinating environmental health and safety programs, including safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Participates/Assists in the development and implementation of safety programs related to Maintenance and Tolling activities, and other OSHA safety compliance programs.

Advises the Operations & Maintenance, and ITS staff on safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of workers as regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Performs hazard analyses and recommends mitigation procedures to the project including supervision of critical risk controls.

Participates in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting.

Conducts routine and follow-up environmental health, safety and hazard inspections of the work zone and building facilities.

Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire and smoke incidents, or unknown hazards; assists with preparing reports of findings and submits recommendations to Senior Management.

Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends and develop reporting tools to facilitate lead indicators; may make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

Education & Experience:

Associates degree (preferred)

3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Prior work experience in law enforcement or fire safety is strongly preferred.
Professional Qualities:
-
Skill in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 safety standards.

CPR/First Aid Certified (preferred)
-
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
-
Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
-
Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
-
Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
-
Skill in developing safety procedures and protocols.
-
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
-
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
-
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Conditions of Employment

A valid driver’s license in good standing and be able to successfully pass a background screening.
Computer Skills & Other Requirements:

Must be able to demonstrate computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and other PC based programs.
