Job Description:

The Economic Analyst applies their knowledge of econometrics and familiarity with socioeconomic data to produce thoughtful, rich, and insightful forecast of mobility in regions, cities, and corridors. They prepare forecasts and analysis to support the development of new highway projects and changes to existing ones.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Analyzing and interpreting macroeconomic and econometric data to forecast economic trends and identify potential risks and opportunities for new and existing projects.

  • Be our in-house expert on the relationship between local socio-economic conditions and mobility.

  • Synthesize, socioeconomic and economic information to make sense of mobility patterns within regions, cities, and corridors.

  • Research and summarize the regional economic and socioeconomic context of regions of interest, including economic indicators and regional development plans.

  • Review and opine on economic and demographic forecasts produced by third parties.

  • Develop and present spreadsheet-based econometric growth models, applying statistical and economic modeling.

  • Scope and specify data collection programs including market research surveys, opinion polls, traffic data collection, and travel time survey.

  • Improve methods for analyzing mobility and economic data using scalable and robust techniques.

  • Develop an expertise in one or more of our assets, becoming an in-house expert on its revenue performance, legal and contractual obligations, and operational characteristics.

  • Manage the work of external consultants conducting specialized economic work.

  • Prepare presentations, reports, memo, and present findings to a variety of internal audience including other departments and executives’ team.

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, master's degree in a transportation, development studies, economics or econometrics program is preferred. 

  • 3+ years of experience in macroeconomic forecasting, econometric or socioeconomic analysis  

  • Experience in macroeconomic analysis, and statistical analysis.  

  • Strong econometric knowledge is highly desired.  

 

Professional Qualities: 

  • Hands-on experience in statistical methodologies and data analysis, and/or econometrics, and/or causal inference, and/or spatial statistics 

  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as in a team from diverse disciplines and cultural backgrounds 

  • Highly motivated, work under self-initiative, take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of their work 

  • Strong critical thinking skills and demonstrate a creative approach to problem-solving 

  • Superior organizational and self-management skills, including the ability to proactively manage tasks with strict deadlines.  

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects, problem solve, and implement innovative processes within a fast-paced environment. 

 

Computer Skills:  

  • Experience with econometric modeling software, statistical analysis and data visualization tools. Must be able to demonstrate high computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point and other PC based programs 

  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, QGIS or Mapbox as well as programming languages like Python, SQL and/or Visual Basic is a plus.
