Job Duties
- Assist in production of drainage designs and plan production of complex highways, railroads, and runways.
- Performs design checks on designs performed by consultants and subconsultants to Ferrovial.
- Contributes to develop design optimizations.
- Perform studies on applicable specifications for performing the specified work in the plans.
- Estimates of quantities (including generation of quantities and performing quality checks on quantities by subconsultants).

Job Requirements:

- Knowledge and experience with MicroStation, Geopak drainage and/or Stormcad, and other applicable software common to the field of hydrology and hydraulics engineering, like HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY8, etc.

Job Overview:
As Roadway Engineer, you will work on a variety of civil infrastructure projects, mainly large-scale Design&Build projects across the United States for either the bidding and the construction phases. You will perform a wide range of civil-design-related tasks and collaborate with other professional peers who will coordinate with you or work under your supervision.
You will have the opportunity to learn the company’s standards for roadway design and develop expertise in roadway design managerial processes. Under the supervision and mentoring of Ferrovial Construction US Design Department, you will receive the technical support and resources needed to advance your career by participating in large-scale projects within a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform roadway design on complex highway D&B and PPP projects, both during the tender and detail design stages of the procurement process.
- Coordinate the design works with a team of design consultants, performing design supervision and reviews on designs performed by consultants to Ferrovial.
- Coordinate all aspects of roadway design with the other discipline managers: Geotech, drainage, structures, MEP, and environmental.
- Manage of internal roadway design team to self-perform design activities on specific project, ensuring accountability for design development and quality control for the self-performing design process.
- Prepare in-house preliminary designs to provide cost-effective solutions and value engineering.
- Supervise the preparation of design packages and reports ensuring the project schedule and budget are met. Development of design specifications.
- Responsible for the preparation of roadway quantities on tenders, supervising and reviewing the BOQ prepare by the design consultants, and internal developing complementary quantities for critical elements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, obtained from an accredited US College or University.
- Master's Degree in Transportation Engineering is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in roadway design.
- Experience with Bentley MicroStation software. Skilled in using the Open Road Designer is a must.
- Attention to detail with data collection, data management, and record-keeping.

The role
The Design engineer will report directly to the Design Manager and will work closely with the Project Manager, and liaise with the Client, Design Consultants and relevant stakeholders in all matters related to Design and Engineering. You will ensure design is delivered on time and on budget, and comply with the required Quality, Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Sustainability standards and requirements. You will also manage the design Contract, including design changes, risk and opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity to use new technologies, tools and software in the construction industry to bring innovation to the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Tendering design packages from project briefs received by the Client – understand scope and negotiate offers upstream and downstream.
- Agree Design Responsibility Matrix with all parties with design input in the project to ensure no gaps or overlaps.
- Co-ordinate the design team activities to ensure that the project design is completed on budget in line with the cost plan and on time in line with the agreed construction programme.
- Monitor and track progress of the design, manage any slippages and be the interface with the management team.
- Actively define and manage design interfaces.
- Lead the review of the design with the interested parties.
- Promote, explore, and materialise value engineering opportunities throughout the design process.
- Work with the procurement team to ensure compliance with financial parameters and assist in defining scopes for subcontracting the different works packages.
- Be responsible for ensuring the design complies with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Work with the Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental teams to support audits to consultants.
- Liaise with client representatives on the design development as required.
- Review and agree Consultants monthly Applications for payment.

MISIÓN:
Su misión será la de llevar a cabo trabajos de delineación eléctrica, mecánica y control necesaria para la presentación de ofertas y para la ejecución de plantas de generación renovable, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the acoustic design development and control of noise and vibration throughout the design and construction technical life cycles, working with the Employer, Designers’ Noise and Vibration team, suppliers, and other contractors delivering other parts of the track system and stakeholders.
- Responsible for the N&V design aspects for a high-speed track contract. The track systems N&V scope includes the selection of a track system to mitigate the ground-borne N&V as far as reasonably practicable, comply with the client’s environmental minimum requirements, taking all reasonable steps to ensure that environmental impacts are no worse than those stated in the Environmental Statement and achieve the above by demonstrating that the insertion gain (IG) is equal or better than the criteria set out in the client’s specifications for each area.
- Close coordination with other design disciplines and components of the track and rail systems components design, and liaison with the Designer to ensure the delivery on time, optimized and in accordance with the Client’s requirements is essential. This will also require working close with stakeholders and other contractors delivering other parts of the track system.
- The candidate will be responsible for leading the N&V design aspects relevant to the works.
- Attend the weekly meetings with the construction team and broader design team and client in Birmingham and/or London.
- Attending / chairing meetings for N&V issues during design and construction and provide technical support for their mitigation.
- Support the Client with identifying change, risk and opportunities and constantly striving for efficiencies and cost savings.
- Aid in the study of optimization and liaison with the commercial, planning, design delivery teams, and designers.
- Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of N&V related issues, especially providing advise and leading the selection of track elements that comply with the N&V requirements set in the contract.
- Provide technical input and support to relevant commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc.).
- Close out N&V issues within area of responsibility in timely manner.

- Experience (training and education) relevant to managing noise and vibration on major construction projects.
- A sound understanding of noise and vibration Environmental Impact Assessment process, environmental legislation, impact mitigation and dealing with statutory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the S&C design throughout the design and construction technical life cycles, working with the design and construction teams, the S&C supplier and stakeholders. Ensure the S&C design comply with the appropriate client’s standards applicable, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.
- Responsible for the S&C design delivery aspects for high-speed track contract, including integration of PW and any TW / temporary stages, integration of assurance and managing the delivery of the associated digital deliverables, in line with the construction and overall project programme, cost and client requirements. The track systems S&C scope include the development of several types of S&C across numerous locations, and implies coordination with CMS, other rail system elements as well as with the civil works designs.
- The candidate will be responsible for coordinating the designers and the supply chain inputs needed to achieve an efficient and compliant design for the S&Cs.
- Close liaison with the Designer to ensure the design delivery on time, optimized and in accordance with the Client’s requirements is essential. This will also require working closely with supply chain and the client’s subject matter expert and other contractors. The role involves contributing to the management of the associated interfaces.
- Attend the weekly meetings with the construction team and broader design team and client in Birmingham and/or London.
- Attending / chairing meetings for S&C design related issues during design and construction and provide technical support for their mitigation.
- Support the client with identifying change, risk and opportunities and constantly striving for efficiencies and cost savings.
- Aid in the study of optimization and liaison with the commercial, planning, design delivery teams, and designers.
- Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of S&C related issues.
- Provide technical input and support to relevant commercial communications (SNCs, NCRs, CEs, Departures, etc.).
- Close out S&C issues within area of responsibility in timely manner.

Key skills and experience
- Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
- Chartereed IMEC, PWAy Institute or CEng ICE desirable.

- Knowledge of safety and environmental legislation, impact mitigation and dealing with statutory authorities.

The Role
The Design Engineer will perform activities related to the management of the design process in the project(s). Reporting directly to the Design Manager, the Design Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager, and liaise with the Client, Design Consultants and relevant stakeholders in all matters related to Design and Engineering.
The DE will ensure design is delivered on time and on budget, and comply with the required Quality, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, and Sustainability standards and requirements. The DE will support the DM in managing the design Contract, including design changes, risk and opportunities.
The candidate shall also be open minded and proactive to explore additional uses of the tools and technologies available in the market with the aim of bringing innovation to the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the achievement of Health and Safety targets in accordance with company policy
- Tendering design packages from project briefs received by the Client – understand scope and negotiate offers upstream and downstream
- Agree Design Responsibility Matrix with all parties with design input in the project to ensure no gaps or overlaps
- Co-ordinate the design team activities to ensure that the project design is completed on budget in line with the cost plan, and on time in line with the agreed construction programme
- Monitor and track progress of the design, manage any slippages and be the interface with the management team
- Actively define and manage design interfaces
- Lead the review of the design with the interested parties
- Promote, explore and materialise value engineering opportunities throughout the design process
- Work with the procurement team to ensure compliance with financial parameters and assist in defining scopes for subcontracting the different works packages
- Be responsible for ensuring the design complies with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
- Work with the Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental teams to support audits to Consultants
- Liaise with client representatives on the design development as required
- Liaise with the Engineering Services in Spain to ensure adherence to Ferrovial design processes and principles
- Assist in evidencing how Health by Design, Design for Safety and Design for Sustainability have been embedded in the design
- Review Consultants monthly Applications for payment
- Prepare design monthly KPI submission and meet targets
- Assist the Design Manager on the management of the design team, giving advice on appropriate resourcing levels, effective performance management, employee development and motivation
