Centre of excellence for environment
The Environment Excellence Centre has a mission to provide comprehensive technical support to the Business Units throughout the complete life cycle of environmental assets: from studies and initial draft projects, the design of the best solution, collaboration in tender bids, technical supervision in construction to ongoing assistance during the operation phase, with the aim of resolving any technical problems and incorporating modifications and improvements.
At the same time, the Centre will maintain its current innovative activity in waste management. It will study trends and new solutions and represent Ferrovial Services in national and international forums for debate. Lastly, the Centre also identifies environmental and industrial risks, in coordination with the businesses and the insurance divisions.
We are committed to the latest solutions and technologies for maximising waste recycling and energy recovery while minimising environmental impact. For example, Ferrovial Services currently generates more than 112,000 MWh of electricity per year by biogas energy recovery at controlled landfills and biomethanation processes, preventing the release of more than 900,000 tonnes of CO2 per year into the atmosphere, equivalent to the emissions of 650,000 cars over one year. We also operate various solid recovered fuel (SRF) plants using non-hazardous waste for energy recovery.
