Your Role: Leading the Way in Heavy Civil Construction Projects 

The Superintendent will play a critical role in overseeing and managing all aspects of heavy civil construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsible for managing the day to day field operations to ensure the standards of the contract are met in a cost effective, safe and efficient manner. The Zone Superintendent shares overall responsibility for operations and maintenance of the project. Verifies work, interprets the contract, and gives direction on schedules and subcontractor work. The Zone Superintendent works in collaboration with the Project Superintendent to coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a services plan consistent with the identified needs of the client and the contract. 

 

What You Will Do: 

  • Ensures completion of condition assessment of pavements, signs, guardrails, bridges, vegetation, tunnels, and other contract requirements.  

  • Determines best approach (self-performance or subcontract) for bringing assets into contract compliance considering cost, timeliness, and efficiency. Sources and qualifies new subcontractors. 

  • Monitors operational, safety and financial performance, conducts operational and financial analysis, and prepares performance information and recommendations for incorporation into the periodic reports to management. 

  • Serves as Leader and technical advisor to work crews.  

  • Leads daily safety briefings and inspects crews PPE, Trucks and equipment before operations 

  • Reports to and works with Project Superintendent to schedule work to be performed.  

  • Inspects in-process and completed work to ensure compliance with contract requirements.  

  • Acts as a communication link between the Project Superintendent and operations personnel. 

  • Ensures direct reports are actively engaging in safe, productive operations according to the schedule. Coach direct reports on productive operational techniques. 

  • Assist Project Super with inspecting and controlling fleet (maintenance, fuel cards, etc.). Manage, monitor, and control project assets and materials. 

  • Responsible for proper work reporting, timesheets, budgeting, and other systems. Prepares reports and correspondence as necessary. Ensures data in the MMIS is accurate. 

 

 

Who You Are: A Profile of Success 

  • The Zone Superintendent is expected to have 2-3 years of skilled trade / engineering experience including knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards and specifications. 

  • Within the first three months have a good working knowledge of the contract and Programs needed to Drive the Project (MRP). 

  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment, and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations.

  • Control project costs by weekly evaluation of labor, material, and equipment costs.

Buscamos un/a Encargado/a de Obra con experiencia para supervisar y coordinar las actividades de construcción en nuestro proyecto en Sagunto, Valencia. El/la candidato/a ideal será responsable de asegurar que el proyecto se complete a tiempo, dentro del presupuesto y cumpliendo con los más altos estándares de calidad y seguridad.

Responsabilidades:**

* Planificar, organizar y supervisar las actividades diarias en la obra, incluyendo la asignación de tareas al personal y subcontratistas.
* Coordinar con el jefe de obra y otros profesionales para garantizar la correcta ejecución del proyecto.
* Asegurar el cumplimiento de los planos, especificaciones técnicas y normativas de seguridad.
* Gestionar y controlar los materiales, equipos y recursos necesarios para la obra.
* Realizar inspecciones periódicas para garantizar la calidad del trabajo y la seguridad en la obra.
* Resolver problemas y tomar decisiones rápidas y efectivas para evitar retrasos en el proyecto.
* Mantener una comunicación fluida con el equipo de obra, subcontratistas y la dirección de la empresa.
* Elaborar informes de progreso diarios y semanales.
* Participar en reuniones de coordinación y seguimiento del proyecto.

Cualificaciones:**

* Formación técnica en edificación, ingeniería civil o similar (FP Superior, Grado o similar).
* Experiencia demostrable de al menos 3 años como Encargado/a de Obra en proyectos de construcción.
* Conocimiento profundo de los procesos constructivos, materiales y equipos.
* Capacidad de liderazgo y gestión de equipos.
* Habilidades de comunicación efectiva y resolución de problemas.
* Conocimientos en prevención de riesgos laborales y normativa de seguridad en construcción.
* Manejo de herramientas informáticas (Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, etc.).

Summary 

Responsible for managing the day-to-day field operations to ensure the standards of the contract are met in a cost-effective, safe and efficient manner. The Project Superintendent holds overall responsibility for operations and maintenance of the project. Verifies work, interprets the contract, and gives direction and advice on schedules and subcontractor work to the Zone Superintendents. The Project Superintendent works in collaboration with the Project Manager to coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of a services plan consistent with the identified needs of the client and the contract. 

Responsibilities 

  •   Manages his or her Zone Superintendents to ensure completion of condition assessment of pavements, signs, guardrails, bridges, vegetation, tunnels, and other contract requirements. 

  •  Directs and advises their Zone Supers. To determine the best approach (self-performance or subcontract) for bringing assets into contract compliance considering cost, timeliness, and efficiency. Sources and qualifies new subcontractors. 

  • Monitors operational and financial performance, conducts operational and financial analysis, and prepares performance information and recommendations for incorporation into the periodic reports to management. 

  • Serves as technical advisor to their Zone Supers and Sub Contractors. 

  • Reviews work schedules received from Zone Supers checking budgets, timelines and safe operations once approved briefs PM. on scheduled work. 

  • Inspects in-process and reviews completed work  with QC. to ensure compliance with contract requirements. 

  • Acts as a communication link between the Project Manager and operations personnel. 

  • Ensures direct reports are actively supervising, scheduling, and evaluating personnel. Coach direct reports on management techniques. 

  • Obtains, inspects, and controls fleet (maintenance, fuel cards, etc.). Manage, monitor, and controls project assets and materials. 

  • Responsible for proper work reporting, timesheets, budgeting, and other systems. Prepares reports and correspondence as necessary. Ensures data in the MMIS is accurate. 

  • Reviews and works with the Admin. on customer service logs and ensures correct and timely resolutions. 

  • Safety comes firstRequired to complete work in a safe, efficient and accurate manner. 

  • Other duties (not listed) may be assigned to this job at any time. 

 

Qualifications 

  • The Project Superintendent is expected to have 3-5 years of skilled trade/engineering experience including knowledge of roadway, structure, and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, and specifications The Project Superintendent should also have at a minimum 1 yr. of successfully leading and managing people. 

  • The Project Superintendent holds overall responsibility for operations and maintenance of the project. Verifies work, interprets the contract, and gives direction on schedules and subcontractor work. The Project Superintendent needs to have complete knowledge of the contract and the programs that drive the project (MRP). 

  • Working knowledge of state and federal safety, environment, and EEO/DBE guidelines and regulations 

  • Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs, and field inspection equipment 

  • Ability to provide technical supervision and leadership to other staff 

  • Read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications 

  • Maintain detailed records 

  • Communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public. 

  • Be an ambassador in implementing policies and procedures. 

  • Ability to obtain Advanced DOT (or MOT if in Canada) Certification 

  • Operation of heavy equipment as needed

Work Conditions/Physical Demands

Objective

Oversee duties involving heavy highway construction activities including structures, earthwork/dirt, concrete and utilities. Manage skilled craftsmen on exciting and challenging construction projects. Work closely with project management while championing safety, fiscal responsibility, productivity, and quality.

Deliverables

Ensure a safe working environment and uphold a rich safety culture by implementing Webber's high safety standards. Support Webber's goal of having Zero Recordable Safety incidents. Manage and execute winning projects. Successfully manage new construction, maintenance, and repair of structures by completing projects on time and under budget. Structures include bridges, retaining walls, overhangs, columns, and other heavy highway and infrastructure projects. Provide expert insight and solutions to unique problems and challenges related to construction activities and cost control.

Regular Job Duties

Monitor the schedule by regularly reviewing milestones and providing consistent solutions to a wide variety of challenges and multiple, simultaneous projects. Communicate and collaborate with management for schedule changes. Provide oversight to the work planning process including upcoming machinery needs, personnel requirements, road closures, and work in progress updates. Review work schedules, provide solutions for potential time delays, and implement strategies to meet milestones on time. Monitor work production and budget continuously while providing solutions to keep costs down and construction activities moving in the right direction. Work with an experienced team to share solutions, express concerns, monitor resources, and achieve goals. Interact with outside consultants, customers, and subcontractors by sharing new and relevant information in an effective, professional manner. Qualifications

Ten (10) or more years of heavy highway and civil construction as a superintendent. High School Diploma or GED. Ability to communicate in English via verbal and written communications using proper grammar and spelling. Preference will be given to those who are bilingual in English and Spanish. This position requires the ability to clearly and effectively communicate via E-mail, presentations, and reports. Moderate level of computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and internet search engines. Mathematical proficiency as it relates to basic accounting, geometry, algebra, and mathematics.
