The role
The Design engineer will report directly to the Design Manager and will work closely with the Project Manager, and liaise with the Client, Design Consultants and relevant stakeholders in all matters related to Design and Engineering. You will ensure design is delivered on time and on budget, and comply with the required Quality, Health, Safety and Wellbeing and Sustainability standards and requirements. You will also manage the design Contract, including design changes, risk and opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity to use new technologies, tools and software in the construction industry to bring innovation to the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Tendering design packages from project briefs received by the Client – understand scope and negotiate offers upstream and downstream.
- Agree Design Responsibility Matrix with all parties with design input in the project to ensure no gaps or overlaps.
- Co-ordinate the design team activities to ensure that the project design is completed on budget in line with the cost plan and on time in line with the agreed construction programme.
- Monitor and track progress of the design, manage any slippages and be the interface with the management team.
- Actively define and manage design interfaces.
- Lead the review of the design with the interested parties.
- Promote, explore, and materialise value engineering opportunities throughout the design process.
- Work with the procurement team to ensure compliance with financial parameters and assist in defining scopes for subcontracting the different works packages.
- Be responsible for ensuring the design complies with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
- Work with the Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental teams to support audits to consultants.
- Liaise with client representatives on the design development as required.
- Review and agree Consultants monthly Applications for payment.
- Assist the Design Manager on the management of the design team, giving advice on appropriate resourcing levels, effective performance management, employee development and motivation.
- Promote company values in all dealing with other employees, clients, subcontractors, and other external contacts.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate the acoustic design development and control of noise and vibration throughout the design and construction technical life cycles, working with the Employer, Designers’ Noise and Vibration team, suppliers, and other contractors delivering other parts of the track system and stakeholders.
- Responsible for the N&V design aspects for a high-speed track contract. The track systems N&V scope includes the selection of a track system to mitigate the ground-borne N&V as far as reasonably practicable, comply with the client’s environmental minimum requirements, taking all reasonable steps to ensure that environmental impacts are no worse than those stated in the Environmental Statement and achieve the above by demonstrating that the insertion gain (IG) is equal or better than the criteria set out in the client’s specifications for each area.
- Close coordination with other design disciplines and components of the track and rail systems components design, and liaison with the Designer to ensure the delivery on time, optimized and in accordance with the Client’s requirements is essential. This will also require working close with stakeholders and other contractors delivering other parts of the track system.
- The candidate will be responsible for leading the N&V design aspects relevant to the works.
- Attend the weekly meetings with the construction team and broader design team and client in Birmingham and/or London.
- Attending / chairing meetings for N&V issues during design and construction and provide technical support for their mitigation.
- Support the Client with identifying change, risk and opportunities and constantly striving for efficiencies and cost savings.
- Aid in the study of optimization and liaison with the commercial, planning, design delivery teams, and designers.
- Support the link and coordination with construction teams for management of N&V related issues, especially providing advise and leading the selection of track elements that comply with the N&V requirements set in the contract.

Key skills and experience

Objective
Oversee duties involving heavy highway construction activities including structures, earthwork/dirt, concrete and utilities. Qualifications
Ten (10) or more years of heavy highway and civil construction as a superintendent. High School Diploma or GED. Regular Job Duties
- Collaborate with foremen and superintendents to ensure that work plans are tracked and analyzed to maximize efficiency in the field operations.
- Develop, maintain, and report the daily quantities installed and performed
- Analyze and compare budgeted vs actual production rates and yield in materials
- Perform quantity take-offs from plans and contrast weekly field quantities and plan quantities
- Assist in the development of Work Activity Plans
- Provide monthly quantity reports for verification of owner quantities and monthly billing
- Assist in ensuring that field work is being constructed within project standards and specifications
- Provide support for project engineers and superintendents as required
- Maintain and organize Plan Drawings, Revisions, and As-Builts
- Assist in maintaining all Project Logs
- Assess, compare, and monitor quantities ordered with materials budgeted
- Maintain the Notevault Diary and provide schedule updates to the Project Engineer
- Initiate, drive, and control Field Operations Reports
- Develop Look Ahead Schedules with the project superintendent
- Present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations including managers and employees

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or something similar
- Moderate to high level of proficiency operating Primavera 3 and 6
- Moderate to high level of proficiency operating MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
- Be able to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
- A demonstrated ability to multi task, be a self-starter, and have a passion for construction and a job well done
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and utilize Construction Math concepts
- Valid driver license for occasional, required travel
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables

Objective
Oversee duties involving heavy highway construction activities including structures, earthwork/dirt, concrete and utilities. Manage skilled craftsmen on exciting and challenging construction projects. Work closely with project management while championing safety, fiscal responsibility, productivity, and quality.
Deliverables
- Ensure a safe working environment and uphold a rich safety culture by implementing Webber's high safety standards.
- Support Webber's goal of having Zero Recordable Safety incidents.
- Manage and execute winning projects.
- Successfully manage new construction, maintenance, and repair of structures by completing projects on time and under budget. Structures include bridges, retaining walls, overhangs, columns, and other heavy highway and infrastructure projects.
- Provide expert insight and solutions to unique problems and challenges related to construction activities and cost control.

- Monitor the schedule by regularly reviewing milestones and providing consistent solutions to a wide variety of challenges and multiple, simultaneous projects.

Qualifications
