Job Description:

Position Summary

Ensure project area bridges comply with plans, contract, specifications and special provisions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and QC Inspection reports (bridge, sign & high mastlightpoles)produced by your consultant inspection companies.
  • Create work order packages for field crews base on the inspection
  • QC work order packages prior to them being closed
  • QC repairs made in the
  • Maintain bridge and work order files and spread
  • Monitor bridge and work or dertime frames to assure they are completed within the allowed time
  • Deal with any questions from within or out side related to inspections,work orders or special
  • Advise management on all ongoing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to describe the current overall condition and condition trends for bridges
  • Skilled in identifying the recent National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) revisions
  • Ability to accurately code National Bridge Inventory (NBI) items
  • Ability to identify and document inspection observations using standard methods
  • Knowledge of evaluating defects based on the 2008 AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation
  • Knowledge of coding NBI components using the Recording and Coding Guide for the Structure Inventory and Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges
  • Ability to determine if overall structure/structural member is fracture critical prone
  • Ability to accurately inspect and evaluate a bridge’s four traffic safety features
  • Ability to list the keys to ensuring a safe work environment
  • Skilled in explaining bridge responses and bridge mechanics principles

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (Required) to drive a company
  • Inspectors working for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are required to be State-licensed professional engineers or certified bridge inspectors who have completed the National Highway Institute course in bridge inspection and meet FDOT’s experience requirements.
  • Minimum two years’ bridge inspection experience
  • Experience on FDOT projects preferred

Work Conditions/Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Use manual and powered pneumatic, hydraulic, gas, and electric powered tools and equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; fume or airborne particles. Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
